I'm thinking about starting with the Monk trainer in Qeynos.

The quest is most likely to start from one of the following:

Yolanda at the mage building in Terren's Grasp.

T'Narev in Pillars of Flame

Master Lu'Sun at the Wu Encampment.

The Village of Shin

My money is on Yolanda. All throughout Kunark she's been sitting there in that Monk Gi of hers, asking you to please not disturb her meditation.

I doubt that an adventure pack would be the start of the line because it might be limiting to players who no longer have it, but I would not doubt that it will be a step later on that involves the Robe of the Whistling Fist.

Seems most people are finding epic starters in old world content. Someone said the enchanters is in the sewers (not confirmed) and another class on the TS docks. Again this are not confirmed.

The reason I didn't mention the Tabernacle of Pain is because the Swifttail faction in EQlive wasn't involved in the monk epic Quest. All monks, whether they were Human or Iksar, had to build up faction with the Ashen Order and Silent Fist guilds in Freeport and Qeynos for one part of th epic line.

Talk to Master Makoto Shoda who wanders between Omen's Call and the Fish people area on the beach and a little up into the trees, in Fens of Nathsar.

 Here is his conversation:

You say, "Hail, Master Makoto Shoda"

Master Makoto Shoda says to you, "Ah, I sense a kindred spirit.  It is well to meet a fellow disciple of enlightenment in this harsh and untamed land."

You say to Master Makoto Shoda, "Greetings, Sensei Shoda.  What brings you to the land of Kunark?"

Master Makoto Shoda says to you, "Tranquility, my life long pursuit.  Until I have found Balance and Peace I will not be fit to serve as the Tranquil One's chosen.  I do so hope that Merrek is doing well carrying on the work in my stead."

You say to Master Makoto Shoda, "So why have you come here?"

Master Makoto Shoda says to you, "It is known that Master Wu, the greatest of all of us, once walked these lands and emerged truly enlightened.  I had hoped to have had a fraction of the same success, but my own spiritual progression has eluded me."

You say to Master Makoto Shoda, "Why haven't you had success?"

Master Makoto Shoda says to you, "After much meditation I have come to the conclusion that I do not know where my path here begins.  I believe I need focus, words to ponder over before I can take my real first steps here."

You say to Master Makoto Shoda, "So you need books."

Master Makoto Shoda says to you, "Ah, you are wise, my friend.  Yes, books would help focus my spirit.  Balance is needed, so two books shall be a beginning.  If you happen across two books of teachings, I would be most grateful if you would share them with me."

You say to Master Makoto Shoda, "I will Sensei Shoda.

So to continue the 2 books of enlightenment need to be found and given to Master Shoda

~ Zhen

I am betting the teaching of Wu and the journal of Wu are the two books he is talking about. My question is, I have not finished the Teachings of Wu. The pages drop in SoS. Will I need to mentor to get the pages to drop?

I have a cat named Master Wu in my inn room (do you know you used to be able to give your housepets names with spaces in them? ah...the old days!)...maybe I could just throw the cat at him and he'd be so intimidated, he'd throw my epic at me? SMILEY

okay, okay...I'll work for it like everyone else.  *sigh*

Pages are body drops, iirc, so you should be able to lay waste to those grey mobs and get your pages.

Check the Qeynos mage tower book keeper.  I believe he sells the books you have unlocked for sale.  He might still have them if you don't have it any more

I know because I just did it. I had both books in my inventory and Makoto had a quest feather over his head. I hailed him, spoked to him, and he took both books out of my inventory and gave me the actual quest.

I'm trying to do the journal quest, but having trouble finding the nightshade bushes. Can't find em anywhere in the shadowed grove. apparently they are supposed to be visible to people on the quest...

I'm with Ellifayne doing this and she is right.  Also it has to be the Teaching of Master Wu from the collection, not the ground pick up.  I had the ground pick up along with the journal and Makato would not speak with me.

Boy am I glad I keep hold of my books. I just hope the ones I have are the collection version not the ground pickup. I'm in England so not been updated yet (Runnyeye server) but I plan on working on this tomorrow. I will update with any new and further information I get.

After meeting with Makoto and receiving the quest, find Chronicler Lao in T'Narev at 32, -56, -1,185 for next update. After that, find Tobee at 1,177m -98, -1,175, the Sun Spires, in Pillars of Flame. You will need to kill 4 orange-con heroic bandits. Once they are dead, you will receive a copy of "History of the Hand" and be sent back to the Chronicler. After speaking with the Chronicler again, head back to Master Makoto and he will tell you to find the 5 blades of the Hand of Serenity. The quest data is as follows:"I need to recover the five blades of the Hand of Serenity. The only clues I have is the directions the elder monks were headed when they disappeared. They are "one went to the dragons", "one went to the north", "one went to the iksar", "one went to the home of his enemies", and "one went into the jungles."

To aid in the search, here is the full text of the conversation with Master Shoda,Master Makoto Shoda says to you, "Ah, , you have returned. It is good to see you again. Have you spoken with the Ashen Order Chronicler yet?"You say to Master Makoto Shoda, "Yes, I have, sensei. I learned of the Hand of Serenity. Is that what you are here for?"Master Makoto Shoda says to you, "I do not know where my path takes me, but I believe the Hand may play a part. I wish to serve the Tranquil Child, but I feel wholly inadequate as her chosen prophet. I believe that if the hand were to be found, it could be used to teach the world Peace and Serenity."You say to Master Makoto Shoda, "The History of the Hand says the instrument was broken and the pieces were carried by the elders on missions of Peace. Is it your quest to find the five blades?"Master Makoto Shoda says to you, "After much meditation and pondering on it, I have come to know that my path won't lead me to the shards. The mind and heart are willing, but I am old and that path is for another. I believe that path that lies ahead is for you."You say to Master Makoto Shoda, "Me? But it is you who is seeking enlightenment."Master Makoto Shoda says to you, "I hope that it is all that quest for enlightenment. I do not believe that it is by chance that we have met here so far from home. You are to walk the road that I cannot. Together we can recover the Hand of Serenity."You say to Master Makoto Shoda, "I understand."Master Makoto Shoda says to you, "We should begin the search for the fates of the five monks and the blades they carried."You say to Master Makoto Shoda, "The Chronicler said that one of the monks went north, another went to the home of his enemies, and that the remaining three came to this continent. Do you know where those three went?"Master Makoto Shoda says to you, "The only information I could find about the elder monks here was an old account kept by a family at Teren's Grasp that predated the founding of that city. It told the legend of two human monks, one going to the dragons, the other to the iksar. A year later, another came searching for the two. He headed east into the jungle. The account is very old but I believe it to be credible."You say to Master Makoto Shoda, "That gives us five directions to begin the search."Master Makoto Shoda says to you, "Then all that is left is to walk the path. May Quellious our footsteps. Farewell."You say to Master Makoto Shoda, "Farewell, sensei."
