Double Station Cash Weekends

I'm a new player who joined this month on the tail end of a double station cash week. For those with greater longevity, how often do these occur? Are they reasonably frequent affairs or annual or what?

Every 4 months or so, give or take.

Since it's fake money, I don't see why they don't do them more often. Even though they just did one (sorta.. wasn't a real double-SC weekend), I am expecting they'll do it again maybe third week of December. Their adding the Gift option to the Marketplace reinforces my theory that we'll get one right before xmas.

I hadn't noticed the addition of the "gift" option. You're right, though. That sure makes it seem like SOE is contemplating a holiday event.
