I have been trying to create a character for a few hours now, and it gets stuck in the "Submitting character for server approval" message. I have searched the forums and I have tried all the things that are suggested in them. I turned off my firewall completely, port fowarded, checked my ports with PFChecker and they all came back open. I updated my video card drivers, made sure i didn't have any old ones lying around, turned off virus software. Everything I could think of. I have tried several servers and starting areas as well.

If anyone could help me out with this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings,

It certainly sounds like you have performed all of the basic connection fixes.  Let's take a look at what happens when you try to connect to the servers.

Please open up the Start menu, choose the Run command, type "command" in the space provided, then hit Enter. If you're using Win2k type "cmd" instead of command. For Vista, "type command" at the search bar on the bottom of the Start Menu. The MS-DOS Prompt window should appear with the prompt, "C:windowsdesktop". For Win98/ME or Win2K/XP/Vista, type the following three DOS commands, one at a time, hitting Enter between each command, and waiting for the prompt to reappear:    ipconfig /all > c:eq2info.txt    tracert unrest.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt   tracert najena.everquest2.com >> c:eq2info.txt

Greetings,

Is there any way to bypass the router you're using so that you're plugged directly into the modem?  That isn't always possible if you're using a hybrid modem, but I would advise trying it if you can.

although I did try something new a little bit ago, decided to try downloading hte game on my laptop last night, and today i tried to make a character on my laptop and manage to get it through even though it didn't run very well on my laptop. And now since i made a character i can get into the game on my desktop which is the computer in question, but sometimes it still doesn't connect and it always freezes if i type /quit.

And i still cannot make a character on my desktop

That's incredibly strange.  Are you running any kind of custom user interface?

Also, I see you note that you have forwarded the ports.  What information did you use for the forwarding, though?  I usually recommend the following website as a walkthrough for the process:

http://portforward.com/

On that site you can select a router, then select Everquest 2, and it will walk you through the process.  You might want to run through that to make sure your setup matches what they have suggested.

Let's check to see if a background application is interferring with the game in some way.  If it's only happening to one computer on the network then it probably isn't a router issue.  To disable background programs:1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Select the STARTUP tab.5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again.
