Just an idea I had, that started to get some support in the guild I'm in.  Thought I'd jot it down here for others think about, and discuss.  But why not have a bunch of class specific epic armor and jewlery quests like we do for our weapons?  The weapon ones were/are great fun.  And offer enough of a challenge to make just about anyone feel a sense of accomplishment when finishing.  And then offer a mythical quest too, for those who are lucky enough to be in a powerful enough of a guild to complete.  It would be a great idea I think.  And others I've talked to about it, think it would be too.

As I said above, it was just some pondering I had.  And since we won't be having any cap level increase for the next year or so most likely, I think it would give everyone something very substantial to do till then.

What say you?

An item isn't really epic if it doesn't have a visual appearance to let players know that you have it, so Jewelry would have to be out of the question. Epic Chest Pieces or something would be nice though.

Too many 'epic' items will lead to a reduction in diversity and itemization, as these epic items will need to be the best item for that slot, thus effectively removing itemization for that slot from the game. Already, there's really no need for more weapon itemization for non-dual wielders, especially at the raid level, due to the epics.

However, TSO should have more heritage and signature quests, so there will be good quested gear.

TSO has a Signature Quest which rewards an item roughly equivalent in stats to A Fistful of Metal/A Few Coins More/An Ugly Bounty (the Thuuga reward). http://fanfaire08.feldoncentral.com...naturequest.jpg

Note: This is NOT an epic quest, it is groupable. This is NOT a replacement for epic weapons at all. Honestly there's not much there for Rangers, Dirges, Assassins etc. As with anything TSO, there may be some changes before or shortly after everything goes live.

A fistful of metal IMHO was waaaaay too [Removed for Content] easy.  Just a bunch of solo crap and running around all over gods creation.  As far as the epic jewlery quest, and the item needing to be visual, is ridiculous.  The term Epic Quest just meant, to reward a fabled item at the end like we do for the weapons.  If I'm wrong about this, oh well.  But I was using the phrase in relation to the line of quests we already been doing, and just saying I'd like to see much more along those lines.  And needing to go to many instanced zones/raid zones, and get updates just like we do for the epic weapon lines.  I think you guys are missing my original point.  It was to give us some challenging quests to work on, and in return get some decent stuff.

In TSO they are going to add a flood of new items for us to "buy" with earned shards.  I'd like to see some more HUGE quests like the epic weapon lines added, for those of us who love questing.  Anybody can do an instance earn some shards and go shopping.  I suspect that will grow old after a while, and many of us will yearn for some more major quests to do together.

I hope TSO has something like this in it.  If not, maybe SOE will think about this idea for the next expansion.

TSO has a few Signiture Quests, 5 Heritage Quests, and it's Storyline Quest, plus most instances have a non-mission related quest that gives the storyline for that dungon, in addtion to the mission quests(the ones that gives the void shards). Thats for Grouping people. There also a large number of solo quests in Moores, most of them are part of quest lines.  Then there are a bunch of Crafters quests, and one quest for both Crafters and Adventurers(the Harvester's Cloak Quest).

Maybe what I mean in my OP was I guess I'd rather see a HUGE difficult questline availible to all classes, that would be class specific granting armor/gear unique to each class, just like they do for our epic/mythical weapons quests.  Maybe even replacing our set pieces that drop randomly in various instances.

For those who have been around long enuf remember the old AQ quests we used to all do back in our 20s?  At the time, it was about the best armor availible to your class for that level.  It used to be very hard to complete, and when you got it all, you got a sense of accomplishment, even pride that you managed to finish.  Now rarely do people even bother with those quests.  And I was just thinking since we are all going to be level 80 for the next year basically, a questline like that for level 80 would be cool.

Hell, I'd be happy even if it wasn't fabled rewards cept maybe for like the last quest or something.  Class specific gear legendary even that was actually useful would be nice even.  ATM the max level class armor that drops randomly in these zones is worse than much of the solo quested rewards  IMO.

Uhhh. IMO the fist fill of metal questline was way more epic and took alot longer time than most if not all the "epic"questlines they put in.

I would be for more long questlines like the claymore tho....now that was a long and involved and fun questline.

It's funny how you can talk to people you know, and everyone loves an idea, and you can post it on the forums, and you get a totally different response lol.

I meant epic.  I hate epics because all they do is add some item that you are basically supposed to keep forever and makes any further itemization for that slot worthless.  They never should have added epics, especially since they plan on increasing the level cap again next year.  I bet there will be loads of people complaining that some legendary level 90 item is better than their mythical.

Nobody expected anyone to keep their Prismatic or Claymore or SoD weapon forever, & none of those weapons made further itemization for the slot worthless. The Fabled epic is nothing more than the next step up from those quested weapons, so I'm not at all sure what your complaint is.

As for people whining that the level 90 weapon is better than their mythical: who freekin' cares? It's certainly not a reason -- or even an excuse -- for SOE to not raise the level cap again & add in more weapons & items & so on.

Perhaps if you could explain why you dislike epics more than other fabled weapons, or why you think their impact on the game is any greater than that of other fabled weapons, I might have some idea what you're talking about.

The object of the game is in the name of the game itself.  Everquest!  I always find it funny how grinders who barely do any quests, complain about a quest because it "takes too long!"  Thats the whole object of this thread goofy!  Some of us, or dare I say the majority maybe even actually like the questing part of the game.  Especially the more difficult ones.  [Removed for Content], we got another year to play the game before a cap rise.  We may as well have some fantastic quests to keep us busy.

I personally love the more epic quest idea for armor and stuff, I don't care what the lazy people say.

I do feel a significant questline like Claymore or Peacock (I deliberately omit SoD because that was terrible by comparison), is a huge boost to the longevity and depth of any expansion.

I particularly like the Claymore line, since it takes you through KoS in a logical way, gradually introducing the various zones and giving some explanation and background to them. It also gives some option in soloing or grouping the majority of the line depending if you prefer challenging solo stuff or prefer to progress with a group, but a bit of raiding at the end ensured the reward, at the time, was a good one, and a mark that you'd beaten the whole expansion.

SoD is when it started to go wrong because for some reason they stopped prioritising questlines like this and rolled it out in 'chapters', meaning there was a constant artificial restriction on finishing the quest. It marked a shift towards more simplistic, shorter questlines. In RoK, attempting 24 mythical quests on the same scale was an ambitious project, and ultimately one they failed (every single mythical is vastly simpler to complete and less engaging than the claymore/peacock lines were). I only wish instead of the 500-odd stupid, trivial, quests in RoK, they'd let the quest designers focus on the mythical lines to a high quality (that would explain the lore behind VP, etc.), and encourage people to do the 70-80 grind in Karnors and Sebilis groups rather than as a monumentally tedious series of trivial solo quests. This would have also allowed them to put a limited amount of heroic content in overland zones - so Varis and other places could have had more interesting encounters and loot.

Depressingly, TSO sounds much the same, a pile of solo quests to grind in the overland zone that are less about conveying lore as they are merchants needing animal pelts (the age old crutch of the lazy MMO quest designer). There's so much potential with the EQ2 quest system but it's so often broken down to the same 'kill x mob' formula. I think a long questline that rewarded players with a choice of mythical item for beating every instance in TSO (and gave some sense of purpose for doing so) would be a great thing, because there's a huge sense of celebration as a guild when you complete something like mark of awakening or the claymore and everyone gets a cool item at the same time. Downing Trakanon for a crappy house item just wasn't the same, and I'm not sure [Removed for Content] Byzola is, much less why I'm risking my neck killing him. Lore is an often underrated and ignored part of the MMO experience, and while hardcore raiders might scoff at roleplaying, they are ultimately playing the game because at least some part of the sub-Tolkien world appeals to them. Ignoring that fact and simply creating a bunch of unrelated zones to grind runs the risk of people realising they're on a virtual treadmill and quickly losing interest.

I ment the length of the quest not if it could be soloed or not.

That questline was far more epic "in length" than alot of the not so epic quests. I remember taking alot less time doing my templar epic than fist full of metal questline.

I miss quests like the claymore line.

A "lot" less time on your epic? You mean you did it in a lot less than a Saturday afternoon? Because that's how long Fistful Of Metal should take a determined person to solo it. Even I did it in 2 days, which is a gigantic amount of time less than I've spent on my epic.

I'll concede that I miss stuff like the Claymore/Prismatic/SoD lines too, but there's no way I'd compare the length or difficulty of the Swashy epic to A Fistful Of Metal.
