Why do we have handles (personas)? I thought they were introduced so that our account names would be kept private. However, the account name is published on the forum if you edit a message you post. See below. It would be nice if the system were changed to use the persona there too.

Hmmm. I have been seeing that lately too and it confused me. I just tested it though on one of my other posts and it showed that elorah has edited it... Could it be a setting someplace?

It's a...quirk...of the forum software that your forum handle shows up when you edit a post rather than your selected persona (character name).

Your forum handle should NOT be the same as your Station login name. If it is, you should PM one of the red-names (Gnobrin, Amnerys, or Grimwell) and ask to have it changed. SMILEY

Heck no. I had a hard enough time to get the forums to stop identifying me as John Doe. A GM changed me to Silken.

It isn't called a forum handle. If you go into My Profile, it is called a user handle. From there you can click on change account information. In that screen, after entering your account information again, you get a screen with various information, including a station handle. In my case, the station handle is blank. I tried changing it to my persona of Silken, which is also my main character's name. The system denied that. It is already taken. I tried changing it to Silken@butcherblock, but that is too big.

I left it blank. I refuse to be identified by still another moniker to SoE. As of now I am variously SilkenKidden, Silken, Silken@butcherblock and any of my other character names. That is far more identies than Sybil ever had.

I am not creating another identity simply to be used in forum messages. Since these forums made such a to do about the privacy of my account id, now known as Station Username, the forums should make sure it isn't published in any way, even if I don't enter a station handle. They can use the persona under which the note is entered if they like. They can use Silken@butcherblock. I don't know what that concatenation is called. It is used in the listing of notes in a forum.

Whether or not you want to change your handle is totally your prerogative, but if you don't want to take the necessary steps to change it to something that's NOT your account name, then there's not much anyone can do to help except recommend you never go back and edit your posts. *shrugs* Best of luck!

I can't change my User Handle. I changed the Station Handle (public) name but the forum handle which is my User Handle and also my Station UserName still shows up in the text of edited messages.

When was it decided that my forum name was the same as my station name? I think that was back when I first logged into the forums and I had no choice. Now I have a choice for Station Handle (publi) name but that doesn't show up anywhere.

Since the forums decided that I had to use a persona and not my station name on the boards, they should not be using it in the text of messages the software puts on the posts I edit.

BTW, I also have a persona, lots of them. I have my character names.

As Seagoat previously mentioned, you can send a private message to someone like Gnobrin to change your User Handle (forum handle, forum name, or whatever you wish to refer to it as since the terminology used varies on different pages within the forum software).I agree that this User Handle should not show in edited messages, but since anyone can click on your name and see your User Handle that way anyway (your profile), if you feel strongly about your User Handle not showing at all you should just contact Gnobrin to change it.

Oh my. I see the member names are shown for each game in the profile. Why then did I have to go by the name of JohnDoe24 for so long when the personas were first introduced? That name was given to me by the forum and I only got rid of it by begging a GM to remove it Supposedly the reason for rechristening all of us was account security. They finally convinced me it's an issue and now I see there is no security here anyway. Thanks for the information.
