I'm trying to decide between a Mystic and a Templar. I already have a 24 Templar, but I'm not against scrapping him. Anyone know the pros and cons for each class?

Thanks :smileyhappy:

With the combat changes and priest overhaul coming, it's hard to say.

I though, would go with mystic between those two choices.

Dunno, don't like wards at all since the damage they don't absorb isn't mitigated. Warden could be a great duo partner, but can't remember the last time I saw a lvl 50 warden running around SMILEY

True, if it was right now I'd take a warden first, templar second.

The problem is since he is relatively low level, does he want to get to 50 with his duo and maybe have the outlook totally different due to the upcoming priest changes?

/shrug

Its a hard decision.

Aye, can't really predict how combat changes will affect the game at any level.

I recently moved servers and have 28 Monk/Warden works out well imo. Before I was a Bruiser(31)/Inquisitor(42) and I like the Monk/Warden better.

go mystic!

with a mystic, wear VLight or Light armor and just stock up on +agility like crazy.  (mystics can buff your sta/str, you just get your agi to 250+).  duo you can get your avoidance close to 84% and the mystic will buff your hp/str, and since mitigation doesnt matter w/ wards -- your set!

or you can go light armor and just get all stats to ~200 and then warden would be my first choice... although duo id actually prefer fury (more utilities it seems)

I just can say, like in EQ1 Monk/Shammy have been one of the best combos, so its here.

My wife's character is a 41 Mystic (im 42 monk) and so far it works great. :smileyvery-happy:

Wards are very nice, str/sta buffs also very nice and dont forget about the slow, as woode said just get agi stuff and yer all set!

I am a 2-boxer - I started out with a Mystic.  He's level 24.  I now have a level 35 fury instead.  Why's that you ask?

The mystic is very tough to 2-box.  Their wards require a lot more attention than regenerative heals that a fury or warden can give.  I know that my regenerative heals last a certain period of time.  With wards, it's all a guessing game - will it last this time, or will my monk suddenly be at 1/3 health and having a tough time recovering because I didn't happen to be looking at the secondary computer when the ward fell?

If you're very detail oriented and can multi-task, go with the mystic.  But if you're like me and like to know that a spell lasts a certain amount of time, no matter how my monk gets pounded on, I would choose another healer to box.

It all comes down to personal preference, of course, but I've found the monk/fury combo to work very well.  Fury buffs are AWESOME for monks (lots and lots of agility) and their heals work well with our almost-never-get-hit fighting style! SMILEY

I do pretty well with my Monk/Mystic combo. But like the post before mine says it does get pretty close sometimes on tougher fights. But usually with wards and not getting hit its a pretty easy combo.

I duo in a monk/mystic combo.  We take on blue ^^ and sometimes even ^^ mobs at 45.  Keep in mind that I said "duo" not "2-box."

From my experience mystic makes the best partner for a monk.  I get my avoidance up to about 81% and the only dangerous moments are the first few seconds when the mob gets his initial "WHAM" in.  After he is debuffed by the mystic, they land very very few hits.  I wear VLA because if I'm not getting hit, it doesn't matter.  We also try to make an HO when needed.  Divine Blade and Divine Nobility are the ones you want (nice nuke and ward, respectively).

By the time the mob is debuffed, I don't need a ward any longer (but Divine Nobility is handy if I do get hit).  And the mystic can then focus on dots.

However, I will say that you'd have to be VERY skillful to 2-box a monk/mystic combo.  Between my monk stunning the mob, and launching all our high damage attacks from behind and the mystic doing all their mystic stuff, I don't see how it is possible (could be, but I couldn't do it).

I've 2-boxed a guardian/templar and I've found that combo to be brainless.  I'm not sure how much attention would be needed for monk/templar to be honest.

Background: I'm a 2-boxxer. I have been 2-boxxing EQ2 sense beta and played EQ1 for 2 years as a 2-boxxer.

I play with my wife all the time so we generally have 3 toons in our little group. She has a lvl 40 monk, I have a lvl 40 mystic and a lvl 40 wizard. We seem to do quite well handling anything up to lvl 42 heroic encounters. She cannot play as often as I do so I tend to build 2-box alts because I do not want to get ahead of her in game. Here's a few combos that I have tried and what I thought of them.

Crusader/Fury     Got them to lvl 27. It worked very well.

Guardian/templar    LVL 27 and doing great (Actually 2-boxxed betrayal, all AQs and cove of decay instanced. Had their AQs done at lvl 23. This combo is the most powerful I have tried to date. I have never grouped with anyone with these two toons. I have them for my 'solo-quiet time' play)

Monk/Mystic lvl 40 duoed not 2 boxxed. My favorite team. These guys are just plain cool.

Guardian/Mystic  LVL 25. Had trouble keeping up on wards/heals. kept running out of power.

Crusader/Mystic lvl 25. Not enough dps. The fights lasted forever.

Monk/Templar LVL 25 Templar was always OOP. Most of her reactives wore off before healing. Had to do alot of patch healing.

Monk/Fury LVL 27 Spikes of damage caused Fury to go low on Power or Monk to die before I could heal.

Summary. All of the alts were similarly geared. I had completed all of their armor quests and all my alts have adept 1 or better of most of their spell. The comments I make are based on my feeling over time of trying the differant combos. As to which was the easiest to 2-box, the guardian/templar were definately the easiest. That combo is just crazy. One quick example. I was fighting in the Steppes yesterday morning with them when a named giant spawned. (Can't recall his name) He was lvl 29^^. I descided what the heck and pulled him. I was out of power after 10 min. of fighting. Because of the mitigation of the 27 tank and the cheapnes to cast of the vitae spells, I was able to fight another 10 min before saying to heck with it and breaking the encounter. I was killing him but I had to get ready for work.

I do find the mystic/monk combo to be awesome and alot of fun as there have been so many people both in and outside our guild that tell us over and over that we cannot do something and then we go and do it. Examples: Only tank/healer on a EL boat ride at lvl 28.  Monk/wizard/Mystic team clears Nek castle sisters at 33 etc.

The end result is that by playing all these combos I have come to learn what to expect out of folks we play with. I must say that EQ2 has done very well at making each of the sub-classes differant enough to really add alot of game play.

I've never had the chance to group with a defiler, so I'd say Mystic.

I 2 box a monk and a bruiser, works really well, tank with Bruiser as bruiser has self heal and monk can also heal bruiser, both about 50%, both also FD when dodo hits proverbial fan

80 Monk here and when I solo I mainly do it 2-box style with my 80 Warden.  This has worked out very well for me and can definitely speak first hand you can be very successful with it.  1st off my schedule doesnt allow me to raid so I have no epic-acquired gear at all.  Warden works well with the Monk in my opinion in a 2box style is that you can go back and forth easily... spam some combat arts... then kick off a couple HOTs etc... both chars continue to do their jobs while youre giving primary attention to the other.  The buffs the Warden have work well too... Mitigation buff, agility, damage shield, heal proc, power proc good stuff.  I really like the enhanced spirit of wolf, evac as well as the porting... makes getting around anywhere amazingly easy.  At this point I 2box Unrest all the way  (yes, the Hag can be a little annoying SMILEY).  Of course RoK instances are over my head.

I do like defilers though and I may roll one and raise to try too for fun... but the Wardens added utility not directly combat related is really nice benefit.

 Thanks and good luck...
