Hi everyone,I was thinking about rolling a necro again after a long break from EQ2 and I was looking over some of the race traditions on EQ2i. Do Erudites make the best necros from a power gaming pov? They get some interesting perks from race traditions such as arcane fury, clear mind and erud's teachings. If I was going for looks I would probably go iskar but tradition wise it looks like erudites are hard to beat. Thanks in advance.

Erudites have to be one of the ugliest races in the game...Iksar/Dark Elf/Emosai are the better choices for looks and that still have nice racial traits for caster classes IMO...at end game it's all about looks.

![]() In all honesty, even with beneficial racial traits and starting stats, you should pick whatever race and sex makes you the happiest camper. Youre going to be staring at this character for a long time. It should be pleasant to look at.

![]() i would choose which ever you feel comfortable looking at as a few levels up it just isnt going to matter. think of your armour and jewelry with all the bonuses and procs etc massively increasing your stats. once you get up a few levels it just isnt relevant and it is a long way to level 80 - best if you like what your character looks like! ![]() Oh I hear that Asp! Basically the only thing I got as a Barbarian was a 5% health boost that gives me a better LB. But I am definitely unique. I remember when I was L12 killing those ^ heroic spiders in the CL just outside WFP, I was thinking to myself "Wow I bet Im the only Barbarian necro on the server!" No sooner had I thought it then a L11 Barbarian ran right past me! He didnt even say Hi! Hehe, anyway, since that day, I have NEVER seen another barbarian necro on Antonia Bayle. I havent even heard of one. Im sure they exist, but I'm prolly the only one that's topped off.

Thanks everyone for the input. I ended up going with iskar- even though I suspect erudites with the current tradition list might be a tad more powerful. I just dont like the erudite look much.

He reminds me of one of those "Grey Aliens" with the big weird eyes, and huge head. |

I guess I am not a true power gamer because I prefer the 15% run speed while invis and featherfall on Dark Elves over the 5% cast speed of Erudites.

Play the Race you are comfortable with. The benefit of EQ2 is that the race does not limit the class you can choose. I am a Troll-Necro. And I am happy about my choice every day!

I'd echo the sentiments above about picking the race you prefer rather than one that might give you a brief, occasion boost. But I'd also remind you that Necromancers get fluff spells that change appearance, so if you pick Erudite you won't necessarily have to look like an Erudite. The fluff appearances I have on my Necro so far are skeleton, zombie and ghost (sort of an invisible man look). To be honest, I don't see that many Necros using these fluff spells, just an occasional zombie, but it is an option. I tend to use the ghost appearance as my Necro is an Ogre, and without the fluff appearance I don't get to see much of landscape as the Ogre fills the screen!

I'm so relieved to get the fluff spells. I rolled a female Sarnak as my latest alt and she's HUGE. Took her down Stormhold and I could hardly move in any direction without going into crouch. Any dungeon now and I can just switch to skellie or zombie, or even Billy doll

![]() Erudites are ugly! I know I play one. Me after throwing snowballs at Naggy. I gotta say that after 2 years of taking damage just by jumping off a rock, that new float spell is flippin awsome! I regretted rolling a Erudite until now. Last night I was fighting in the Yeti caves and jumped from up there almost all the way to the docks with 0 dmg! As far as the 5% faster cast... If my math is correct for a spell that takes 1 second to cast, will cast in .95 seconds lol

I think it looks really cool when you're wearing a robe -- there's no face, just a pair of eyes under the hood -- so necro! Of course, if you don't have the hood up then you just see hair floating in the air a few inches above the robe. It's quite disturbing. |

NOES! Ratongas are the best. Pitiful Plea has got to be one of the best racial traits for the Necro. It's almost like having a second FD. (Though when both are down and the mob comes for me, I Rob them. LOL!!)

![]() I personally love the dark elf racial line. The float is great for getten around dungens by avoiding trash mobs safely and jumpen off flying mounts from insane hieghts. 15% run speed while invis. Like pityfull plea, DE's get shadowslip , drops priority one position and X amount threat. "great for lifeburn" Also get a ability that is practacly a Ghetto Jesters cap on steriods with a 5 min recast 30 sec Duration. "great for life burn & stacks with implode recast rate timer" Last but not least Fueled by hate , increases out of combat power regen and increases magic resist X amount for 3 mins Duration. 3 min recast I thought fueled by hate was fairly usless for a necro untill i saw how much mana a raid heart consumes after casting it. After casting a raid heart , fueled by hate , mana stone , mana tap pet , hit heart , wait a couple seconds...back in action. Innoruuk may have alot of hate but I really feel the love since RoK.

![]() I'm one of the few Ogre Necros on my server if not the only. Love in a raid when no one can see i cast my commanding presense and 20% bigger..than the original Ogre which is nice..cause sometimes stacking bodies and not seeing a thing is annoying. Also ..my HP is 8k self buffed. Not bad considering my power is too, and I'm not in any uber raiding guild. LB is insane with a HP buffed Ogre. |

The alien look just isn't for me in the EQ2 world. My fave races in game pretty much seem to be Dark Elf, High Elf and Barbarian.

![]() Erudite is the only way to go with a Necro.. Your racial abilities are PERFECT as a caster, plus you get hover. Dark elf necros are a dime a dozen. You can not go 10 feet on AB without tripping over a dark elf anything.. Talk about just being a lemming.. Erudites look great as a caster. Plus you go with that dark skin tone with the burning red eyes and you make an amazing looking necro. HP's wise they are fine. Remember, the guy that wants to be an Ogre Necro has to burn a bunch of level choices on power % increases. I can burn one on hp % and match that ogre. All while having more power. So the answer is, Erudite all the way... One thing though, I did change the default voice on him. The old man default was horrible. I picked the sly one and it fits in nicely. Dark elves... |

The only thing erudites are missing is a deaggro. This can be pretty major. I don't know what races do and what races don't get deaggros, but I think I would only play a mage that had a deaggro + hate position reducer and that it would take precidence over 5% cast speed. |

![]() Well I would argue that a de-aggro ability on a long timer is better then a passive 5% casting speed haste. Honestly, as a necro, I don't have issues with aggro. My tank pet holds it just fine and in groups, any tank that can not hold is needs better taunts then. Even then you got FD to clear it if you need to. Having a 5% increase to your cast speed helps you ALL the time, vs a handful of times where you messed up and got aggro. |
