Because chat windows and tabs can't share a filter. Only one window/tab can have any given filter so you're gonna have to pick and choose which tabs/windows you want to have which filters.

you need to edit your eq2.ini to do this. add chat_allowduplicatechannels 1

Or use one of the many UIs that have it build in and let you set up every window the way you want it.Look at eq2interface.com and you will find many options and helpful people.J.C.

The chat interface is quirky to say the least.

Is yours a tabbed window, or multiple windows?

In a tabbed, if you go to secondary tab, and add in tells, in my experience, it generally adds that channel into main as well.  If I then remove myself from tells in the main tab, it removes them from both.  But if I then go back to the secondary tab and add myself back in, this time it only adds me on that tab.  Of course logging out will reset all my work.

Any custom UI that allows this feature likely allows it the same way that Lulani stated a few posts back:  they provided a modified eq2.ini file with the proper command.  For instance, this is the custom eq2.ini that comes with ProfitUI:

cl_ui_skinname ProfitUIcl_ui_subdir UI/

# Below you find some additional options that cannot be set via the ingame menu. # Just add or remove a "#" in front of the setting which you want to activate/deactivate

# Enable Anti-Aliasing support (enable here, then set via your graphics card driver)r_aa_blit 1

# Allow the possibility to have chat channels in more than one tab/windowchat_allowduplicatechannels 1

So, if you want that feature and don't want to change your UI otherwise, just add that last line with a text editor to your eq2.ini file.

I did not post the notion of the additional UIs to discredit the command that was posted by Lulani  but I do realize that many people do not feel confident enough with a computer to ever go find the ini files and make a change. That does not in any way imply the OP does not know what he is doing but this posting will be read my many interested people and for them I showed that there is a way to do this without them having to change any files manually. And who knows, they may be like me and get hooked on a custom UI :=)J.C.

actually you don't need a custom UI to get this working. From my experience every type of chat has to go into a chat window. So, if you create as many chat windows as you want with as many tabs as you want, if you make sure that every type of message goes into whatever place you feel appropriate then you will not have duplicate messages anywhere. If you do , simply check the "offending" tabs and remove that type of message  from one window and that's it .

If you do want duplicate messages then simply check that type of chat in more than one window.

Anyway to get around the fact that every time I log out and log back in it puts all of the Level Chats back into my main tab?

I have to go to my main tab, remove myself from the channels.  (Which also removes those channels from Misc)

Go to Misc, and add them back in (which also adds them back into  the main tab)

and then go back to Main and remove them again (Which this time only removes them from Main and does not remove them from Misc)

Only to have to repeat the process once I relog.
