Hi.

I have just hit level 10, and am still in the starting area ( something like qenos colony, I'm at work atm and can't be 100% ).

I have got all my harvesting lvls at 32/50, but they don't seem to want to go any higher, no matter how much I use them.

Is this the max they will go in the starting area ? If so, I may as well move onto the next stage, as I think I have exhausted all the quests here and the mobs are all grey.

Cheers.

Yes, there is a max that your harvesting will go up per tier of zone.  It will stop giving you level ups until you move up into a higher area.

Harvesting usually follows a level x5 equation.  Yeah, I know... we all hate math.

It's the 8 of the level previous.  (T2 and T7 do not follow these rules)

So at 18 you should have 90 harvesting skill to be able to harvest in T3 zones - Nektulos, Thundering Steppes and Butcherblock. At 28 you should have 140 and so on.

Wow, I'm getting a nose bleed just thinking about it !!!

Thanks for reply. I think I shall just  jump on that ship and move to the next zone then.

The general rule for harvesting is that you gain 5 points per level, with the maximum you can get being determined by the higher of your adventure or tradeskill level. Generally you can only gain skill-ups by harvesting nodes up to 10 points (2 levels) above the maximum level for the node's tier. T1 is an exception, in the starting areas you seem to stop getting skill-ups much earlier.

For skill required to harvest in a tier, the general rule is that you can start harvesting there at the tier's first level minus 2. So you can start T3 at 90 (level 1SMILEY, T4 at 140 (2SMILEY, T5 at 190 (3SMILEY and so on. The exceptions are:

T2 starts at 20 instead of 40, to help people who came from the starting areas without harvesting there. They won't have to spend as much time harvesting in the T1 areas around the cities before being able to move out into their normal adventure areas.

T7 starts at 250, not 290. This is a leftover from when expansions didn't automatically include all prior expansions. Back then, people could have access to T7 content (the KoS expansion) but not T6 (the DoF expansion) and would have to skip from T5 harvesting (level 50 max) directly to T7 (level 58 to start). So T7's minimum skill was set based on the skill cap for the last tier everyone was guaranteed to have.

T8 used to have an exception similar to T7, Kylong Plains harvesting required a 250 skill while all the other T8 zones started at 340, but they removed that exception back when they gave everybody RoK and all prior expansions automatically. I'm expecting them to remove the T7 exception at some point too so all tiers follow the general formula.
