After 3 years of playing this game, there are still little touches that make me stop, and think - the Devs didn't HAVE to put that in, but I'm sure glad they did....

My latest 'discovery'...

I was climbing a wall somewhere, and as usual I was in 3rd person view but reasonably close to my character, and slightly to the right... For some reason, I had stopped climbing half-way up, and was simply hanging there, when...

Wow! My character got cramp in his right arm, shook it a little to get the kinks out, and opened and closed his fingers a few times, then went back to hanging there. That is a neat touch. For a second I thought I could feel the cramp in RL and wanted to start climbing right away before I fell!

That's a little touch that adds to the immersion, and kudos to whoever put that little animation in.

Does anyone else have any favourite little touches?

Yeah, the jump animation on the wargs is nice too. I just wish everyone else could see it too.

May favorite "little" touch? The detail they pay attention to on the ceilings. When one feigns death... very convincingly... a lot, they kind of notice these things.

I love the ceilings, too.  I am totally amazed by a lot of them.I keep nudging my graphics settings higher and higher.  I keep wanting better computer enhancements to nudge my graphics settings even higher 'cause each improvement to hardware I've made, I've had yet another incredible detail show up.

I play an Arasai, and I really love how the wings flutter much faster in combat than when standing around. It makes a lot of sense when you think about but, it's not something that I would have thought of to ever implement or ask for...

I also noticed on my friends worg that they drool! I thought that was a cool little touch to add! It makes the worg look more realistic and a bit 'wild and unsophisticated' compared to the horses.

And I still love the shooting stars in the sky at night. SMILEY

one of the little touches that really adds life are the clouds of moths (or whatever) that buzz around some of the street lamps at night.  I was floored the first time I noticed them.

Aye, one of the things that I find really endearing about this game is the night sky with all its twinkling stars.

I recently made a new alt on newb island (Freeport side) and noticed a little animation that made me smile. You remember the Bear Trainers mobs? Linked encounter with one bear and one elf of some sort. Well, if you leave them alone a while the elf actually tries to teach the bear to stand on its hind legs!

Love it.

  • The butterflys, moths and other insects that you find swarming around in different (and appropriate) places.
  • Leaves falling off trees (and they float on water).
  • Three-eyed schools of fish, and the bats, in Neriak.
  • The teachers in Neriak demonstrating abilities (one of them uses a student as a guinea pig for his spells).
  • Cats chasing rats around Qeynos and Freeport.
There's more, but still not nearly enough. I've always thought that it's these little things that add a lot of flavor and 'life' to a game.

I agree the little touches are part of what makes a game great. I really like the way the ocean in sinking sands swells and flows and how the surface is marbled with realistic foam. Fantastic job on the ocean in SS there whoever did that!!

There are definatly a lot of nice touches in Eq2 but I still think it could use more immersive things that give the game character, like different dance animations for different toons and race-specific clothes. Remember how dwarves in eq1 would do a little rolling flip for their jump animation? No other class could do that. Its stuff like that which really makes a game amazing.

If the Devs are giving you  "little touches" you should tell a parent NOW!It's not your fault.

0.o not there fault.. pfft.. put that to court.. lets see how far it goes.. hehe.. Next on CNN a ripped off MJ Touching Scandal. Was it working as intended? or was it all for the money? But on topic.. spell casting particles let along the radial flora = big drool.. To bad i cant have cloth simulation on yet or id have to overclock past current ability of my Nviidia 6600 GT. Always wondered if cloth simulation does as says and makes it more moving with the wind and movements of your self. than just be all stiff. and if so to hoe much a degree

now if only they would put back in the animation for mounting onto your horse, instead of it plopping out of your rear end.

One of the little touches they have done that I like is in QH.

I'm not much of a cat person but against one of the walls in QH there is a stack of barrels.

On one of the barrels is a cat.  BEHIND the barrels is a litter of kittens, complete with a runt!

It makes me go "ahhhh" every time and I have to stop by and see them every so often when I am running through.

I always wonder who put that one in and why.  It's a hidden detail.  There is no reason to actually look behind those barrels.

Also, I love the Hummingbirds in the Newbie Area in Greater Faydark.  (like the butterflies in other zones and the beetles/flies in DoF)

I have yet to see them anywhere else in EoF but I will see them every so often in starting area whenever I am running around a new alt.

They even have a humming sound, I would guess thanks to Cat.

I'd never spotted the kittens either... but went to see them, and they ARE cute.

I just hope Mum keeps them away from Sargeant Quackers, or there'll be the devil to pay! (I think of the cat ON the barrel as Mum...)

These are the type of things i was thinking of when i started this thread - so everyone please keep em coming...

Something i just remembered, but noticed AGES ago... all these containers throughout the city. There's vials of testubes in a rack, Purple glass jars with lids on and so on... They are usually on a barrel, or a wall - but here's the thing. They are NOT static. If you find one, note where it is and a little while later it's not there anymore... and new ones appear all over the place.

I don't know if this is at every login or server reset - but it's bugging the heck out of me - what ARE these for? Who keeps moving them about? And more seriously - is there a quest associated with them I haven't come across? They look to me very like something an alchemist might use?

There are crates, bolts of cloth, piles of armor, etc. that appear in different places in the city when the servers reset. Some of them stick out a little because the coloring doesn't match the rest of the zone. Those are sabotage targets for the old sabotage quests. I believe they're now used for betrayal faction quests.Othesus - Dirge - Lucan DLereVaspar - Fury - Lucan DLere

I was struck tonight at how beautiful the Antonica Lighthouse is, the light sweeps around and around and can be seen from way off.

I believe the Red Star only appeared around Frostfell (Xmas) time, and is probably a nod to a certain red-nosed sleigh-puller. SMILEY

I also agree about the lighthouse, Wildmage (there was also one on Newbie island way back when it was just one island, and the first time I saw it I couldn't stop taking screenshots....) - although I have to say that I wouldn't consider the lighthouse as subtle - everyone knows it's there! SMILEY

Some of the NPC dialog is pretty good also - because of where my house is in SQ, I often go past the Alchemists shop and I love it when I overhear "Has anyone seen that highly explosive vial...?" (or words to that effect). Also for the broker in NQ.... However, I would gladly go the rest of my life without hearing "Have you seen a gnoll before?" ever again!

Thanks also to Othesus for clearing up about the zone furniture!

On the lookout for more subtle additions / little touches.....
