Is pvp in EQ2 really just random ganking? No structured pvp or pvp objectives/quests?

I am unclear on how killing others and being killed affects me. Can someone elaborate?

If I am killed by a group of 6 (when I am solo) is it identical to being killed by 1 person?

Is most pvp really just low level locked folks hanging out in newb areas?

Hey Scald.  I'll try to answer your questions as best I can, and as neutrally as possible: Is pvp in EQ2 really just random ganking? No structured pvp or pvp objectives/quests? Correct, there are (currently) no PvP objectives or quests.  I'm not sure what you mean by "structured PvP."  There aren't any Battlegrounds like in WoW, if that's what you're asking. I am unclear on how killing others and being killed affects me. Can someone elaborate? This post should answer most of your questions: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...58405 If I am killed by a group of 6 (when I am solo) is it identical to being killed by 1 person? In terms of what you lose, yes.  The spoils are split between the group, however. Is most pvp really just low level locked folks hanging out in newb areas? While there is a large amount of PvP in Tier 2 (the "newb" tier), I doubt it's the majority.  From my experience in-game and reading the fourms, I get the following impresion: ~25-30% of PvP happens in Tier 2 - early Tier 3. (That's levels 10-24ish.  A popular range for a vareity of reasons, the biggest one probably being number of targets and ease of target acquisition.) ~15-20% of PvP happens in late Tier 3 - early Tier 6. (That's levels 25-62ish.  It seems most people just try to level up in this range, PvP certainly does happen, but since the world is much more spread out and "bigger" in this range, it's mostly accidental, bumping-into-the-bad-guy kind of fights.  Beware choke points like teleport spires, docks, and bells, though!) ~50% of PvP happens in late Tier 6 - Tier 7.  (That's levels 63-70.  Unless a player goes out of his way to stay in a lower tier, everyone gets here eventually, meaning most of the action takes place here.)

Yes.  Kill kill and double kill.  All players want a positive 45K PvP faction that only goes up 35 points a hit.  You pretty much need about 2,000 kills

I am unclear on how killing others and being killed affects me. Can someone elaborate?

Bank all your cash before you leave the city.  The worse thing that can happen to you in eq2 is you loose most of your money if you bring it with you when you leave your city.  Well I take that back, the worse thing that can happen to you in eq2 is you fall madly in love with your pvp title and someone kills you, takes away some of your infamy, and de ranks you taking away your fancy pvp title.  Then if you are a true title hugger you will be forced by honor to ritualistically disembowel yourself in real life before your kaishakunin beheads you.

If I am killed by a group of 6 (when I am solo) is it identical to being killed by 1 person?

For you yes, for them they have to split your cash dropped and token if you drop it.  Unless you are going to play a scout, bruiser, or druid don't even plan to solo much on your 1st toon, and plan to die a lot when solo.  Solo=Serious danger even for the best and most experienced players.

Is most pvp really just low level locked folks hanging out in newb areas?

No.  Locking is what experienced players do when they get burned out on their main character.  They almost always eventually go back to to their mains or level up.  My best piece of advice is to level lock yourself, find some friendly lockers and make friends with them.  Stay locked with a group of lockers while you learn to play (L2P) pick up everything they know, and get about 1200 or so kills before going on to t4 trough t7.
