![]() I am brand new to the game and rolled a mage and scout. I /claim'd 2 paintings and the 'of Stromm' title with my mage after deciding my soon-to-be ranger was what I wanted for my main. So now I am stuck with the mage. So... which path should I take? Wizard, Warlock, or Conjuror? I am looking for after-combat-revamp prespectives along with current opinions of each class. II have little time at once (2 hours, 3 max) to be on EQ2 and grouping will be hard, so I will be soloing most of my characters life. Which is the better soloer currently, and which do you think will be the better soloer after the revamp, and hpw does each class solo? plan to take it slow and level up crafting as much or a little more than my adventuring level, so which tradeskill will be best as well to both make money and provide some things I can use? Thanks!

Just some quick thoughts: Personally, I think your profile fits the Conjurer/Necro + Sage combo nicely. With a pet, you'll find it quite possible to solo effectively. I love my Gnome Conjurer that way. A bud of mine plays a Warlock and finds it much more difficult to solo. Sure, he can dish out loads of damage, but has no way to protect himself if a mob attacks him and dealing with groups solo seems harder for him. [Of course, his DPS is tremendous and he gets groups easily.] All this is second-hand, but I think Summoner-Conjurer/Necro is a very good choice for soloing. Perhaps the Enchanter line is comparable against grouped mobs, but I suspect that you're in big trouble if mobs resist your mezzes, and you don't have "tank" assistance from a pet. In fairness, though, I know little or nothing about playing chanters. As far as tradeskilling, if you really want to help yourself first it's good (imo) to pick a tradeskill like Scholar-Sage or Outfitter-Tailor. The former will allow you to make your own spell upgrades indefinitely and the latter is great for armor. Also possible are Scholar-Jeweler (for your own jewelry), Scholar-Alchemist (make your own ink), or Craftsman-Provisioner (make buffing foods). For making money as a merchant, all of these can be good. I have a Tailor, an Alchemist and a Provisioner - and the Alchemist is the money-maker of the three by a very good margin. Enjoy! ![]() For your mage's artisan path, another option would be to go Jeweler to make the runes needed for your Ranger main. This way, you do not have to level the adventuring side of your mage at all. Side tip: if you plan to make your mage a full time Artisan, I would suggest going Enchanter, and levelling to lv22. At 18, you get the Breeze spell, and at 22, you can chose a trait that add +5 power regeneration out of combat. If the race of your Mage allows it, take the racial skill that boosts your choses artisan profession (I don`t remember the lowest level of the racial skill). All of theses will make your levelling as an Artisan even easier.

Loralor makes a good point about the Jeweler side of it. If your Ranger is your main, then Jeweler is probably better self-service than Sage. (Sage makes spells for clerics and mages, Jeweler makes them for scout classes and Alchemist for fighter classes. All are in the "Scholar" line of tradeskilling).

aye conj or necro will be best for your adventuring class. they solo nicely, a little less sought after for groups, but from what it sounds like that won't bother you too much.

Well for me it's a no brainer. I've always been a pet class (magician) so conjurer all the way. We solo better than sorcerers atm and I suspect the gap will widen even more after the combat revamp. As far as a tradeskiller I think the Jeweller is a good suggestion for the reasons mentioned. I have numerous crafters just so I can be self-sufficient. I don't really craft stuff to sell so I can't really comment on which is the biggest money-maker. I can tell you though that my alchemist makes a metric buttload of worts for all my other crafters so he is very useful for that reason alone.

![]() Jeradim, Only one question: How much is a "metric buttload?" I only ask because I wonder if my alchemist has yet made this amount of material. I suspect that he's somewhere in the .867 metric buttload range given his level (26), but that is merely an approximation. :smileywink: Message Edited by Raybourne on 07-13-2005 02:26 PM |
