i have started a new fighter and really do not fancy the guard (ish) route a second time , so ruled out the zerker. I was going to go bruiser , but i currently fancy a Monk

But as he was going bruiser , i made him a Barbarian , Now will a barb be any good as a monk ?  I have not seen any in game , but doesn't mean its not feasable.

Any constructive comments welcomed SMILEY

I think a Barbie would do fine as a monk.  Honestly, every race really can play every class (thats why I went dwarven monk).  Some combos might find things a bit easier at first, but in the end it all seems to even out.  And strength is still very important to monks, which barbies have alot of.

I would hold off until after the revamp to see what each class will be like before making a choice.

I am a barbarian monk race really dont matter. What matters is knowing what a monk is and at this point we dont really know what the class is gonna be.  The game has only been out almost a year and were all clueless what a monk will be.

Bruiser smoke the average monk in DpS but if you get alot of fabled junk you might be close to a bruiser that is using crafted items, its a close call tho. it was suppose to be slight edge for bruisers in the dps and slight edge in avoidance for monks.  Thats not the case tho.

barb monks are fine as they get the + defense racial.  Monks are more of a tank then bruisers, so if you want dps you really should og bruiser.  Bruisers will out dps a monk in the drop of a hat.  I love monks but as is we dont really need to tank anything so we are kinda pointless since we get sub par dps in exchange for marginal tanking benifits over bruisers.

Thanks , well i'll give it a go anyway SMILEY  - i guess i was questioning it from a flexability point of view , but then again , i doubt that has been taken into account SMILEY

Ah didn't know that - bruiser out DPS monks ?  that a consistent thing ?

bruiser out dps-ing monks is pretty consistent as far as I have seen, which is how it is supposed to be now (monks more def, bruiser more dps).

Its true that with the combat revamp who knows what will happen, but who knows when that will ever go live.  I say give it a go as a barbarian monk.

I am a Barbar Monk and do quite well for myself. They have an excellent set of starting stats STR, DEX and STA that work well for the class.

Like others have said, race not so important except from a roleplay perspective and how you want yer character to look.

I can't think of a single reason why barbarian's wouldn't make a good monk.  Though they make great bruisers.  SMILEY

The only reason you need to play a barbarian monk!
