Betrayed from Wizard - looking for soloing help

I am lvl 84 right now and just betrayed from Wiz to Lock. Wiz was easy, most solo mobs like the stuff in SF died after I cast Ice Comet. With the lock I dont think we have a big nuke like that. I root it, cast dark pyre, acid, other single spells and most times it breaks root and I kill it with about 30% health left.

What am I missing here?

If you're sure that you need to root a mob to prevent it from killing you, don't cast dots or it will break pretty quickly. Stick to direct damage spells like distortion.

I'm only 64 at the moment, so by no means an expert, but for leveling up I put 10 points in the Magi's Shielding AA in the warlock tree. It adds a regenerating ward, and with that up I don't really bother rooting mobs unless they're nameds. As I said, I'm only 64 though, so nothing's hitting that hard yet.
