I am wondering if I should take up armorsmithing so I can make my own chain armor for my Swash, yet I wonder if it is even worth it in the long run and doing another like provisoning would be better.

Can I get quest/drop armor that is just as good or better or would crafting my own be the best way to approach things.

Thanks in advance

You will not be crafting your own unless you really dedicate yourself to the Armorer. Raising a TS class is work, maybe less than a ADV class, maybe the same, that is a different debate, but it will take time to level both.

Mastercrafted gear used to have best vs difficulty to obtain ratio. Dunno how easy some of the mid game sets are to get now. On my 62 Inq, I've started collecting the KoS set simply because they are quest rewards for the place I've chosen to XP. But now that she is 62 I'm crafting a set of armor for her until she gets better.

Quest/drop armor FAR exceeds crafted armor.  especially the higher adventure level you go.

Mastercrafted armor is the best to use while leveling up.  It's far more powerful than the average quested armor piece and you aren't likely to spend time farming dungeons in the hopes of getting better pieces.  Now in end game, that changes.  But for each level bracket up until you hit the level cap, MC armor is a good way to go.

Having said that, I wouldn't suggest that you go armorer.  I mean, how many pieces are you going to make per tier?  You'd only be making x7 pieces for your standard armor slots and possibly x1 shield.  Though I honestly doubt that you'll use a shield for leveling as a Swash.  Compare this with a class like Jeweler where you can make 20-30 Expert level abilities for yourself.

The key is to figure out which crafting profession will cost you more.  Pound for pound, getting your Experts made will be far more expensive.  If you want a full set of MC armor for a given tier, here's a simple suggestion.  Gather all of the rares, imbues, common materials, and a full stack of full for your chosen armor tier.  Post in Crafting chat and 1-9 chat that you're looking for a crafter to make a full set of T(*) armor and that you're supplying all materials.  Then also offer a tip in advance.  You'd be amazed at how quickly someone will respond.  (I've done this many times on alts.)

"LF 60+ crafter to make set of T6 armor.  Supplying ALL materials (including commons and fuel).  Paying 4p.  PST."  (As the tiers go up, I might start to offer 5p instead.)

A post like that makes a real difference.  By offering to supply EVERYTHING, you can potentially (and likely) get the attention of a high level player.  Most high level players don't have a box of low level commons junk just sitting around.  As a result, I generally don't craft items for strangers unless it's gear at the last tier of the game.  Those are the crafting materials that I have sitting around.  So if you're willing to do all of the foot work and a 90th crafter just has to show up to make the combines, then that's a completely different matter for them.  I also tend to offer 4-5p since it's enough to get the attention of a high level crafter while not being rediculous at the same time.

I play a brigand primarily, and I've definately found being a Jeweler more beneficial.  I make my own spell upgrades, I make my neck, ear, wrist and finger pieces, and I can often trade services with armorer or weaponsmiths for my other needs.

?? Mastercraft armour is very rarely beaten by quest rewards until the very very end of a tier, with a few exceptions and oddities.
