I've read thru the forums, or tried to, and have decided to just post my question/issue.  I can't seem to login to the game on my desktop though my laptop is fine. I had some sort of ISP probably Saturday morning, after 5 hours the internet was back up but I couild no longer get in game. I get "Login invalid, password invalid" errors when trying to get in game from the character select screen. No characters are available for selection either (true before I trashed the character ini's). I click on play and I hang, or the eq2 process just disappears. Since I can play on the laptop, its clearly a problem on the desktop.

I tried repairing, doing a full file scan, and even reinstalling the game (though admittedly into the existing directory). Since the laptop works, its clearly not the modem, not the router, not the ISP, but has to be something in the game files, ini's, something. I tried deleting the cache, took the third party UI out of my eq2.ini (but didn't erase it), and trashed the character ini's. Didn't fix it. Before I try uninstalling and then erasing the entire directory, I wondered if there were some other specific files I could trash, or looks at to find the problem.

I'm not sure if this will help or not...  it's just a shot in the dark...

In your EQ2 folder there is a file called _characters ...  ie: eq2ruler_characters (if your account name is eq2ruler) ...  maybe try deleting that?

It could very well be the router. It could be the modem as well depending on the type. This sounds like a port issue. Firewalls basically close ports. Our game uses alot of ports. Many routers and usually DSL type modems have hardware firewalls. Please try power cycling your router. Unplug the item from its electrical source for one full minute. Plug it back in and allow all the lights to come back on. It is probably best to have the computer shut down until the modem or router is fully booted up again. Try logging in again.

Well it seems to be fixed. Likely one of the ini files I deleted. Now comes the laboriuos process of adding them back in till I find the one that blew it all up. Thanks.
