I have a signature that really shows my out of game interests and would love to use it, but I didn't see any regulations in the stickies about Sig content. I have seen ones that are not EQ2 so that's what made me hope to be able to use mine.

OK, this is what I know so far, a non-EQ2 sig that advertises or mentions another MMORPG not owned by SOE will be removed by the moderators. They kind of want no games but EQ2 in the sigs. As for other non-EQ2 things... I'm not really sure. The rule of thumb is, "When in doubt, don't," so if you're not sure, then don't use it.

![]() if i remember correctly, there was a law suit issue for posting company names that werent part of the mmorpg game in images, that prolly was because of a logo pic being used in this sig. but as sapphirius said. if you arent sure then dont do it. p.s. this was a really old mmorpg game forum site. Only thing I could think of would be Toyota complaining, but then again it's free advertising for them when people see what their 27 year old chassis is up to. Unless SOE wouldn't like it or would rather I didn't have a logo or two on there, that you might barely be able to make out on the car. There are certainly no games shown in there, that's an actual road course. Of course it probably does qualify as entertainment, but can't really qualify as competition compared to EQ2. For what I paid to be out on track that day I could've had a year of Station Access, and that doesn't count the fuel, hotel, and maintenance. So it's really in a different class entirely.Unless there's any major dissension I may just put it up until it either gets taken down or someone asks me to, I just spent too much time working to get it right to not show it off as much as possible. And I like to be different too, I don't post here as a character, I keep my character development in game.

As long as your sig doesn't violate the forum rules, it should be ok. That doesn't always mean it IS ok, but the forum rules cover just about all the bases. The "grocery rule," however, is always a good rule of thumb: "When in doubt, throw it out!"

Which I found very surprising. So I would like to also add that you make sure your signature does not violate copyright rules, which you can read about here: http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html |

Grocery rule, eh? My wife's grocery rule is "If in doubt, give it to the hubby--he has a cast iron stomach..."

I also highly doubt any company would ever find out and if they did, it's even less likely that they would care since they are getting free advertisement. Also, since a moderated responded to this post and didn't say there was anything wrong with your sig, you're fine using it. |

Well, you have to remember that SOE would do so to cover their own arses if it became a problem. I believe there was a dispute a while back when City of Heroes was out for only a little while. There were people making certain comic book heroes and villains in appearance and name and NCSoft got in trouble over that (specifically from Marvel I believe) for copyright infringement and had to restrict players. As with any copyrighted material, yes you may get away with it because a signature is small fish compared with something used for commercial purposes, but you cannot rationalize that it's okay because you are not making profit off of it or that it's free advertising for a company or an individual artist. It's still in violation. It is similar to running a red light. You may get away with it but that doesn't mean the action itself was right just because you didn't get caught.

You'd be amazed at some of the sigs I've seen on these forums (and had to subsequently have nuked)...it's incredible what some people think is OK.
