I know whenever I bring this up the answer is, Everquest 2 is not ment to be viewed from high up or whatever, and to add it they would have to redo a bunch of coding and stuff. Well why didn't they add it in the beginning? I'm sure they knew that people would want it and this would come up. So why?

![]() How is knowing why they didn't put it in the structure over 3 years going to help anything? They left it out so they wouldn't have to worry about it being exploited when designing every zone. That's it. It's really that simple. |

According to a conversation I had with Blackguard at Fan Faire a few years ago, levitation simply doesn't work properly within the EQ2 game engine. It's not for a lack of trying on the part of the devs.

Adding a flag on a per zone basis is simple. New zones and zones that are fixed to handle levitation get the flag, while indoor or legacy zones do not. The flag says, if you can levitate, then levitation is permitted, or flying, or canon shot boots, or dragon or griffin personal mounts, etc. As long as the zone vertices are closed in all directions, and the collision testing is handled more like EoF, there shouldn't be too many problems. Getting knocked off a flying mount or a floating disc could actually help the game, since it would produce more than a few amusing videos on YouTube. As far as introducing any new special case code, I don't see a problem. If it is a zone wide flag then it only needs to be executed once per zone transition. Gnomish aviators everywhere would rejoice, as dirigibles come to EQ2 at last. |

what about making the character simply float 2 inches off the ground and take no falling damage... but you dont have a shortened falling time?

make levitation like fae fall, either the same falling speed as that or maybe slower but if it works having fae fall in levitation can work the same way.

Levitation should be more like swimming, with control of up or down, as though in water. Thus the physics would not have to be altered at all. Since your feet are no longer in contract with the ground, suspension of movement rate mods mya be an option, though maybe the swimming skill could be taken into account visa-vis astronauts.
