Much of the instances that I have ran in groups in the past have never been yellow encounters, even less orange.  Lets not say named/bosses.  Havent been able to figure out if mons have a greater chance of dropping loot (say master/fabled/legendary) if the encounter cons harder.

Read only one post that said it doesnt.  Its the same orange or green.  But thats a post back in mid 2005.  Not sure if anything has changed at all.

Unless it's gray, your lvl vs mobs lvl doesn't affect the loot chance.

When I was levelling up my SK, I took her to Stormhold because I remember the treasure trove of farming to be had there back when my Illusionist was a baby. SK's are pretty good soloers (not as good as Illusionists, but hey, who is?) so I took her there at 23 to reap the phat lewts. This was in the summer of '06.

Named heroic mobs were either blue, even, or yellow when I started, and all were green when I left a few levels later. The drop rates for fabled chests did not vary at all, no matter what my level was or what they conned. The probability of getting a fabled chest was about 40%.

When the SK outgrew Stormhold, I took her over to Varsoon for some more farming. Mobs there get harder as you delve deeper into the dungeon. Green named mobs dropped fabled and legendary chests just as often as they dropped treasured chests. Blue, even, and yellow mob drops were exactly the same.

When Stormhold turned gray, I moved on to Runnyeye. Same thing. They could drop treasured chests when they are yellow, and drop fabled chests when they are green.

This year, when I started transmuting and needed to farm low level stuff, I took my baby Fury through the Stormhold/Varsoon/Runnyeye circuit to check things out. I was very glad to see that drop rates have improved. Treasured chests now commonly drop rare harvest components on top of dropping treasured loot. Fabled chests usually drop three or four items now. The frequency of fabled chests now drop about 50% of the time - a slight increase from last year.

So, bottom line, it doesn't seem to matter one bit whether the mobs are orange or yellow or even or blue or green. Nothing has changed since '05 other than the chests seem to be more frequent and generous now a days.
