My computer lags more than most.  I almost always crash in sos in the armory and have crashes at other inopportune moments.  When in a raid my comp lags enough that there is a couple second delay between when I push a button and it starts to cast.  And yes, when raiding I adjust my settings to the lowest possible.

There is something else that I have found that helps me also.  If I have my character view in first person and look at the ground I get no lag at all.  I can cast away with no lag or problem.  Granted this might be useless for a melee class.  Maybe this will help someone else who is getting frustrated by lag and is a caster

Additionally, I go on autofollow and do the same thing in sos now and get led through the armory while looking at the ground.  No crashes. This isn't the greatest way to play, but till I can get a new comp it helps me.

I'm not sure this is exactly earth shattering . . . when your machine is rendering only the ground at your feet, yea, it's faster . . . duh? Most lag on raids comes from rendering so many spell effects and player movements.  Looking at the ground, none of that is rendered.

The key difference is between lag and system slow down. Lag is the higher than normal latency that your computer processes data packets, usually as a result of either ISP connection issues, your hardware or Server issues SOE side. If latency falls behind normal, you computer is playing the waiting game to process new packets, which is why sometimes u are stood there but nothing happens.A lot of people cry LAG! when it is in fact system slowdown. System slowdown is where you may not have the required processing speed, memory or graphics card power to process spell effects, characters, zone geometry that Everquest 2 is throwing at your computer. In this case, the game appears choppy, but it's not lag per se, just your computer struggling to get everything displayed as fast as it can.A good way of stopping slowdown is of course looking at the floor, since your computer is generating less effects, geometry, player movements overall as the poster above said.
