In all likelihood tinting will not look like this, but just a what if. First  chainmail touched up with some color here and there...nothing fancy.  Changed out a gold version of the polished/Fabled plate with one that has 4 versions.  Swapped out one large screenshot of the blue fulginate color for 4 colored versions of fulginate.  Also added some full colored versions of chainmail similar to what is being seen now coming in game. Chainmail dye: 4 color fulginate: 4 polished/fabled shots.  Standard being the in-game untouched version for comparison. Black carbonite: (edited for screenshot change)

You have just displayed more talent/creativeness than what the Art Team is currently displaying.

It is amazing what simple tinting can do for armor.  That looks wonderful!  /sigh, now it makes me sad. edited for spelling!

Normally truths like these are funny because of how true they are... but in this case, it really is sad.  Tinting is not the most complicated, or resource intensive processes (CPU/GPU resources-wise), yet EQ2 is lacking in it soooo severely.

Totally agree, nor is tinting ROCKET SCIENCE! Even if they just gave us a basic 8 or 16 color palette so that we could tint our own armor in areas like you showed on the chain and fulginate, over the existing texture, that would be a huge improvement. Come on, devs, it's getting late in the game to keep us looking like we crawled out of a gutter or deserted the same army.

The "Golden" armor is not different than the Parade armor you can buy at guild level 25 OR the T5 Fableds. I see nothing golden on it

its tinted golden not colored like my first 4 pics SMILEY so the highlights are gold instead of silver.

to tell the differance look at my last one in the top row and the second one on the bottom row ... both are the same color just one is using a "tint" filter and the other is "color" filter SMILEY

well it was "photoshoped" but i didnt use photoshop SMILEY used fireworks, color and overlay and use the "color" filter so it only replaces the color of the item below it and not the luminosity or anything else. alternativly you can use the "tint" filter which is a lot lighter than "color" and keeps the bright areas white instead of changing them into the color.

you can tell they are photoshoped expecialy by looking at the legs of the bottom pink one SMILEY

oh ok.. they do look kick [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] though.. and maybe thats why they wont add it.. because running filters in any kind of program does sweat your processor.. of course they could always add an option to disable it

yes they would need 5 layers then not 4.

they already have the base polygon with:
bump mapping
opacity
texture
glow mapping

if they added the tint layer then the cards with only 4 texture units (IE the GeForce TI series and a lot of the older cards that work with EQ2 now) wouldnt work anymore unless they disable something. imo they should, instead of using opacity, just create seperate models for the different armor looks.

for an example if youll look on the left side of my monk's arm youll see a thin white line. this is left over after applying the opacity map to the polygon to make it look like it ends when in reality it covers my entire arm. this artifact is on several items such as the fog grimmith cap my Warlock is wearing in the picture below my post, almost any arm item that doesnt cover the whole arm, any pants that are cut shorter than normal, some of the leather pants with the short butt flaps SMILEY, and a lot of other designs. so cutting out that one layer would allow them to add in tint without raising the requirments and it would help make the game look smoother.

and to the OP:
i love the midnight one you added in for the status armor SMILEY

Thx.  Working with heavier tones does create an interesting look.  Really brings out every little detail in the armor.

The midnight armor looks awesome. To Petigue: Nice to find another Fireworks enthusiast.  There aren't enough of us.  We need to make the AwSuMnEsS of FW known to all.  =P  (For further example fellow readers: see my signature, done in Fireworks.) I think if I saw any monk wearing that bright purple I might have to cover my eyes.  This is one fear I have with allowing users to tint their own armor - or allowing crafters to do it.  Inevitably you will have people wearing the most garish schemes imaginable to mankind.  (i.e. bright purple and magenta or something else akin to a "Hello Kitty" purse).  lol

Thought I would also share some of my armour tinting experiments here.. though not as cleancut as the OP I am in the feyiron plate for the first set, and the bruiser AQ for the 2nd: First off the original:                                                                                  Some brightening up for luster as well:                  ====   Maybe some cobolt colouring:                                                              This gold turned out to be my favourite:                 ==== More of a light and textured blue:                                                         And for those ladies who want to be a power ranger:                 === Dusty light browne (my 2nd favourite):                                                w   t    f  ... .. no idea, I was tired:                 ==== And here is the original of the bruiser in AQ1: == A summery golden colour: === Powderpuff blue: ==== My favourite and a dark sepia colour: === A vile greene, but my friend decided he wanted to see greene: === some kind of orange juice orange: === blood red: ========== So in conclusion how long did this take?  Well honestlly selecting the pieces to dye took longer than dying... is this hard to code? Eh not really... I would really like to see some diversity in the armour... welld one to the other tintings here too edit: yay i can spell

well I did it by taking the images, outlining and selecting the various pieces I wanted to colour in Adobe Photoshop, putting them on a new layer and then either using Colour Effects (tm) or the Stain option in the blending effects to mess around with colouring, tinting and shading... its pretty easy.

Yup, definitely not hard to implement ingame - in fact it seems it already IS ingame. At character creation, choosing the colors for hair, skin, eyes, glyphes etc. and clothing(!) - it is ingame, they just need to extend it to every clothing item ingame.

the two easiest ways i know if in Fireworks are to either cut out the armor pieces or do what i did and use a brush on a new layer and paint over them.

then take that and add a color fill effect to it and fill it with the color you want then change that layer to be either the "color" or "tint" filter.

using the same filters i took this image i got from ogaming:

and colored it for use a sig i did recently:

(yes i realize the colors arnt exactly the same but thats because i didnt save my final version of it before cutting and pasting into the sig heh.)

Very, very nice.  Dont sell yourself short...those all look awesome.  Feyiron is tricky to work with in that the armor looks flat and has no depth to it.  Unlike some of the other armor suits where you can see glint, glare, and reflections in the metal - feyiron has no luster to it.  Almost looks as if the shine was sandblasted off.  :smileyhappy: The cobalt, white, and gold colored ones are my favorites.  The Bruiser AQ ones are all great.  Sadly, even if those color options were available - the outfit itself really isnt visible anymore in the game.  By the late 20s and on the majority of Brawlers are already wearing Light Armor pieces.  The dark sepia and blood red are my faves there.

That midnight fabled gear is my exact mental picture of what I wanted T6 fabled plate to look like. Excellent job, I just wish little changes like this could be made in the game, I know tinting the armor cant require the amount of time they said creating new armor would. They just added blue tint to some of the chain armor yesterday, one of guildies looked very nice in it.

I would love to see my Shadowknight in Black and Red armor, the colors of Shadow and Hate. LOL. I would create it myself, but my PC is still enroute from the move. It always looks odd to me that SK's and Paly's wear the same colored armor.
