I too run a 6800GT...  Can't wait to see what it looks like when the 7800's come out...  Should be great.

about the 6800gt running on balanced, - you may want to consider defragging your hard drive while disabling virtual memory, than turning it back on.

Also make sure you have enough system memory.

then clear your pc of spyware, etc. and open almost no programs but EQ2

those look fairly similar to my game. I keep all the texture settings at maximum. dunno wat u've set it to, but yours look slightly better than mine. I've played around with the settings and it's turning up the light quality that makes the game lag for me, but looks REALLY nice.

btw, i run a NVIDIA Geforce FX 5600

The 6800 has more features in it that will make the game a bit better than a 5600.

got a fresh install of xp pro the weekend before the game went live, installed EQ2, EQ1, EQ2Map, corperate edition of mcafee cause work pays for it, spybot, firefox, quicktime, WoW (uninstalled it), teamspeak, and OpenRPG (for my D&D game). there is nothing else installed on my system. i run spybot and it comes back 0 detects. jsut installe dhte new video drivers they helped some. i did uninstall my old drivers and delete the old folders before i installed the new ones. p4 2.8, 1gb ram, 80gb drive, forget what type. I'll admit i don't know a lot about tweaking it. but i went through one of the big sticky posts on the tech forum and didn't really see much difference. all my web surfing, email, instant messengers, etc are all installe don a second computer. my mian PC is for EQ and my D&D game only.

Well, I'll admit that when running on extreme quality it isn't as smooth as i'd want. But I can still play solo or a small group pretty smoothly.  Other than that, I usually turn Flora off and put shadows to a minimum. Those two are big FPS hogs.

Sorvani,Is the game still running bad?  If so, you might want to have the memory and hard drive checked.  Especially if the drive makes noise.  Drive fitness test is a great (free) hard drive test utility I use all the time at work.  (I'm a computer tech).  If the drives comes up fine, get memtest.  Other than that, you should be going good.  I run mine with a Athlon 64 3000+, 2 Gigs DDR400, and two WD80 gig drives.  Only major difference is the memory.  You could try upgrading the memory, might help some.
