Hrm, im only level 8 ranger but i seem to only get 2 starting bow shots off, and right when they get close i cant shoot them with a bow any longer. And if i try to back up, they are right on my tail... so we can only use bows to pull and 1-2 starting shots?

That's very typical when soloing.  Later you will get some more skills, but they have pretty much taken any of the skills that could be used while moving away from us, so that we can no longer "kite" the mobs around.

Ahhh welcome to the solo world of a ranger. Yeh lead off ranged and get ready to melee. When you get roots/stuns/traps and what not then it becomes a little easier to use more ranged atks. I think getting a group is the way to go personally. I don't feel very "rangery" when I solo'd at low levels.

As you progress things will pick up.You will never be able to take out a mob with range alone while soloing.   However at lvl 53 usually have lvl 56 solo mobs down to 60-70% health by the time they get to me.  Drop my melee attacks, root mob then run back, drop another range or two and the mob is dead before you can blink.

You can still autoattack and move. At higher levels, you'll have many more ranged CAs and a few snares, which (if they're actually working that week) you can use to slow the mobs and lengthen the amount of time you have to pound them with ranged CAs before you either close to melee or begin kiting with ranged autoattack. The root component on the Lunge line is helpful, as is our Cheap Shot stun. Even the 2 second interval on ^ mobs will buy you enough time to start backing off and using autofire. Unfortunately, the mobs now run faster than we do, so they can close ranks even when we get a headstart on them.

For now, keep your head up and learn to master the stun > back / stealth attack, that's going to be crucial at these lower levels. You'll get a lot more ranged attacks as you level past 20 or so. Good luck.

You can use the lunge line spells as soon as possible hit em - just back up a step or two and fire off another round or even two on your faster CA's.

Cheap shot gives you time to back up and shoot as well... With aa's (AGI line) I can get off three bow shots AFTER melee combat has started. Most mobs are pretty well dead by then. Also, if you use your snaring shot before your third shot, you can back up and get off one more... (stealth shot -> snare shot -> triple shot)
