I am wondering about this island you can go to from a ship outside Commonlands dock.

Who is running it? Or who was running it.
Why is it abandoned and infested with pirates and orcs?

Whats the Bogstrutter doing there?

Its a very nice little island.

Yeah the 999 year old Port quest. It IS a nice island, but there's no backstory to it other than what you're told.

I don't know if he will talk to you or not.. However, the island is filled with level 30s if I remember correctly, some heroics.

This zone was a tie-in to the release of the the Desert of Flames expansion.

My understanding on the history of this island is that a group of gnomish inventors/adventurers created ships that were capable of breaching the malestorm around the continent. A tribe of pirate orcs, who had regained their intelligence upon the departure of the gods, saw these ships as a opportunity for themselves and their race and captured the ships.  These pirate orcs made contact with their stronger/smarter Rujarken bretheren and began trading with them. This interaction is now being noticed in the appearance of Rujarken advisors and gear within the orc tribes around Freeport.

The orcs trapped the Admiral and captains of the gnomish ships on the island to extort the aid of the gnomish crew in manning/repairing(it was created by gnomes after all) the ship.

Some gnomes escaped and sought the aid of adventurers in the freeing of their Admiral and captain from the orcs, which is where the line of quest that lead to the island eventually takes you.

While on the prison island, the act of freeing the gnomes provides the opportunity to start the quest for a guide to Ro.

That particular prison isle belongs to pirates... now. It was once one of many prison isles belonging to the Far Seas Trading Company. That island was abandoned by the FSTC during the cataclysms. It is also said that the FSTC maintains a sprawling prison island far larger than the smaller prison isles. This massive prison island is called the Hold of Prexus. The FSTC named it after a common seafarer myth about a inescapable underwater citadel that belongs to Prexus, the ocean lord. This mythical citadel also appears in the common slang term:

The Hold of Prexus

Meaning:  Drowned, Lost at sea

Origin: Seafarers, Pirates

During the Age of Turmoil the seafarers and pirates of Norrath begin to refer to those who either drowned or last at sea as being sent to or residing in the Hold of Prexus. The Hold of Prexus is a mythical fortress of the god of oceans, Prexus. This lair is deep within the crushing dark abyss of the plane of ocean called Kexia. It is said any mortals that were either summoned or attempted to find the Hold of Prexus were never to be seen again.

“Blackhook the pirate king was sent to the Hold of Prexus after falling overboard during a sea storm."

ooh, that larger prison facility underneath the ocean would be ,The cool, to see sometime in the future.
There is something very exciting about prisons ,not to say underwater areas.

thanks for the info Vhalen

If I'm not mistaken, Hold of Prexus is also a real zone where GMs summon people for being naughty =P

Here's the story behind the Smarmy Sprocket:http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive.vm?section=Development&month=092005&id=590&direction=backThe quests and areas were added as a live event to introduce the Desert of Flames expansion and coincided with Talk Like a Pirate Day.Othesus - Dirge - Lucan DLereVaspar - Fury - Lucan DLere

Sorta. More like a staging area.

Is Kexia the name of the Plane of Ocean, or is the prison within it named Kexia?

Ok here is a question, how the heck do you do this quest solo when you cant take a group in?  My 26 Brigand is getting owned by the mob on that pier. If you go in too high a level its not really worth it is it...

The mobs in the quest don't drop any special loots anyway. I just did the quest when it was already greyed out (Partially because I hadn't discovered it untill then) and got two books for my house out of it.

Well, take a group of course! :smileyvery-happy: Anyone on this step of the quest can come with you.. I'm not sure if someone who has already finished it can come though. So, I'd suggest grabbing any friend in the 20s, helping them through the treasure hunt and the puzzles on the Smarmy Sprocket and taking the island as a duo. While they are all rated as solo the groups are huge and they seem to be social, so you might be fighting 8 or more vvv at a time.Othesus - Dirge - Lucan DLereVaspar - Fury - Lucan DLere

aye it is possible to zone in more people. Allthough if you have done the boat part and they havent, they will have to do that and then they get zoned into the island with you.
