I think I need some tips on controlling pet agro in a group.

Full group of 6, including 2 fighter types (guardian and beserker), 2 healers, and 2 DPS (me -cute rat conjurer and a swashy).  Lvl's were in the 32-38 range - I being lvl 34.  I was using Igneous Adept fire pet - AdeptIII.

About half of the fights my pet would get agro and die.  I would wait for the tank to engage and get the mob down a little before sending in the pet.

What am I doing wrong?  Or is that how it is supposed to work?  I played a mage in EQ1 and don't remember my pets dieing that often (or I would have been broke as it cost a malachite every time you cast your pet).

I also have the Master 1 Aery Outrider Scout pet - would that be better in a group?  I thought with the swashy in the group, the fire pet was better.

One bit of information you didn't provide but I can assume is was it groups of mobs that you were having the problem pulling agro on? If it was groups of mobs then yes, your Aery pet would be a better choice to keep your pet (And you) alive. But if it was just solo targets that you were pulling agro on then your tank likely needs a bit of training. SMILEY  And even then in that case your Aery pet would be a better choice... I used my Aery pet all the way up to end game for just such a reason, he still does great DPS and can also stand up to attacks better than the fire pet.. I started using my fire pet when I got to the latter half of Tier 7 content and got my pet deagro that enables me to not be quite as bad at pulling agro.If you have any further questions I'll do my best to answer,Hinotama Kakubakuhatsu 70 Conjuror of AB Server

My Conjurer is in his late 30s, and in some groups when we pull a group of mobs, my Mage pet gets aggro.  This is generally because most tanks don't have as many AoE taunting tools as they have single target taunting tools.

When you're in a group that's fighting only single targets, it's not usually an issue (and this group would be a prime candidate for your Scout pet).  Since the Mage pet uses a lot of AoEs, they're ideal for when you are pulling groups of mobs.  But like every other Mage in the game, you have to be weary of tanks that aren't good at holding AoE aggro.

If you're having a problem in a particular group cuz the MT isn't holding AoE aggro well, swap out to your Scout pet and pray the MT can at least hold single target aggro lol!

You're already waiting  a few seconds before sending the pet in.  During that time, toss on your DoTs (the fire one and Swarm of Bats) to put you above your pet on the hate list.  It won't last long, but it's more DPS if nothing else.  There's really nothing else you can do without the AA that allows you to deaggro for your Mage pet.

I suspect the problem lies with the tank.  Do you know what level his taunts were at?  Especially his AE taunt.

Either way, a Adept 3 fire pet is going to garner a buttload of aggro with it's nukes,
