I have been playing since 2011 and I've never had to do a faction grind just to do the signature or normal questline. Requiring a faction grind to get a specific item (e.g. grinding faction w/ Nye'Celona in order to open up the quests in the gardens to get 30 quests so that you get a nice secondary) is reasonable. The grinding is optional. But to require you to do repeatable quests to gain faction after only 3 quests (non-sig line) or to gain +22K faction just to do the first signature quest is unreasonable. I love questing but not doing the same quest over and over.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you dont really have to "grind" faction to do the quest line..

I know for house of Vahla, you just have to finish their main quest line up to the point that you no longer have any more quests other than the repeatable ones. At which point you can grind, or move on with the sig line.... that doesnt seem too bad or unreasonable...

This is beta. Everything is subject to change. We have no idea how the signature quest line is going to be rolled out once this expansion goes live. If you want the live rewards from participating in beta then the faction grinds to 50k are required. If you don’t want the rewards, don’t grind. The only reason I’ve done the three factions to 50k are for the live server rewards. And to help with bugs and feedback. This is such a great way to make sure the game we love is release with minimal bugs and hiccups. You don’t have to participate. It’s all voluntary. However, the more eyes in beta the better the product will be when it is released. Just my thoughts.

I certainly would tend to agree with you, Jim, if the grind was 3 quests in, and all the way to max (50,000). But that is not the case. You may not be aware of this, but you need only grind the first few quests for a short time (up to 1000 faction). That means you will only need to do the first repeatables a total of 7 times (divided amongst 2 quests). This means either 1 quest 7 times, or 1 quest 3 times, and the other quest 4 times, etc.

Then a whole new line of quests open and provide different repeatables. And so on.

The intent is for it to be divided up, so you don't get smacked with monotony for a long period of time, no matter where you are on the quest line.

I realize this is Beta. I was just providing feedback of the type that DB would be inundated with if this faction requirement went Live. I've done plenty of "faction grinding" (don't know what else to call it) before (e.g. 50K faction w/ Bastion of the Tranquil for epic 2.0 ... on two different accounts). I've just never seen this kind of requirement for a signature line quest.

I think the point Kaitheel is trying to make is that there isn't much 'grinding' in it.. it's more of a quest timeline needed to progress the parallel sig line. There are 3 portions of each timeline that require repeatable 'grinds' and 2-4 full sets of the available repeatables are enough to get you to the next set of (non-repeatable) quests.

To be honest, I was very confused by needing the repeatables. I ran around trying to see the "missing" quest giver for a bit. I may have skipped over some text though.... If it's not already there...would be good to make sure it's clear for a new player..

I wrote up the timelines on the wikia as I went through them. Between that and information and contributions from others, the wikia has a mostly complete write-up of all 3 faction lines.

You did a really good job on the wikia mermut.

But i think the point is there should be an in-game pointer telling that you have to do a few repeatable quests before you can continue with main quest line. I were also confused after the first group of quests and searched a long time the whole time for another quest giver.

It does not have to be sophisticated. A simple "Go see XXX when you will have proven more for us. In the meantime, i got 2 jobs for you..."

So no matter what we have to have 2 factions hate us to the point of hostility if we start the Sig questline?

No, the only requirement for starting the signature quest is level 100+.

You'll have two of the factions hating you if you do any quests. This is just another traditional three opposing factions scenario, like Maj'Dul or the original Velious expansion.
