My monk dinged 22 & got a new skill, Swooping Dragon. This new skill does... (wait for it)... ELEVEN points of damage! Whew! Now, just to prevent this massive uber damage upsetting game balance, this skill is on a 30 second timer. *blink* Well thank goodness for that!Does this skill stun the mob? No.Does this skill stifle the mob? No.Does this skill debuff the mob? No.Does this skill buff the monk or party? No.This skill simply does ELEVEN points of damage, consistently, on a 30 second timer...at...level...22.How do YOU spell 'boggle'?So does this skill ever gain enough damage to be worth it, or is it just a wasted level as far as the skill goes?

Unless your skill is bugged (which I doubt), Swooping Dragon is an initial DD followed by about a 15 second DoT, somewhere around there. With adept1 at lvl 26 I consitently hit around 130-150 initial damage and around 25/tick for about 5-6 ticks I would guess. Easily my most damaging ability right now, closely followed by Rapid Swings (App3) when they all connect. I DO remember when I first got SD at 22 and at App1, the DoT part of the kick was 11 I think, but that's still for 11 dmg for 5 ticks + the initial damage. Sounds like you just haven't looked at the right numbers?Vydian

Yeah, at 22 without an upgrade it likely does something like 40 damage on the initial hit, and 11 on the first hit of the DoT. Then for 2-3 more hits it'll do 11 more each time. Its a GREAT ability, but when I first got it I was pretty peeved too. I was thinking "What the F?! 11 damage?! That's lame!"

Yup, you are seeing the DoT damage, not the DD damage.

Try and also get Swooping Dragon Adept 1 at least!

Dmg is VERY nice and the Dot helps as well!

I'm only a 27 monk, but I have Swooping Dradon Adept 3 and do about 100-122 damage each time.   It has become one of more potent atatcks.

Don't feel bad.  It took me a few battles to realize that it was a DD + DoT.  I think it is still somewhat bugged in that you don't get the DD if someone else in the party has it dotted (with the same "type" dot).

Spell damage (DD, DOT, ETC) caused by weapons or abilities are Orange numbers highlighted by a blue border.

I decided to test Swooping dragon on a low level creature just to see what potential the skill has. I used a moat rat in Antonica and scored a 111/13 strike.

Using a more powerful target, I was getting around 80/12.

I just recently upgraded to App4 and I"m doing 120/24's on white mobs at level 25

it also can start your HO chain, so you can open pull ( I use Focused Strike), pop HO, open with Swooping Dragon, finish HO. then start another HO using Forcused Strike. Just in that first few seconds with the add damage from Swooping Dragon you do a lot damage.

I am a monk, that also happens to be an alchemist. I had an Adept 3 SD in my bag , dinged 22 during a multi-mob fight and had scribed my adept 3 before the second critter was dead. Out of the gate  the dot was 20+ at level 22. Now at 26 (almost 27) it hasn't changed much, the initial hit is bigger though. Hope this info helps somebody.
