I had started work on a Fan Faire application that would run on Androids as a personal learn-to-program in Java and Android. But I stopped working on it when I learned that someone from SOE was also developing one as well. I figured there was no need to have competing products in the same space for such a limited audience.

Even if I had the money (and Job) to go to fanfair...still couldn't use this I use a LG600G from Net 10

I dont understand why all guys creating apps for this iphone, ipad or something from the house of captivity names apple...

As far as I know, the iPhone/iPad app is a front-end for XML data provided by the Community Relations and Fan Faire Planning teams with some formatting by Rothgar. The iPhone app must be getting its data from SOMEWHERE.

Anyone wanting to create an Android app would not only have to hand rewrite all that text by retyping it, but they'd also have to visit the SOEFanFaire website every day, or look at a friend's iPhone, to see what's updated and then manually make those changes! This would require a tremendous amount of redundant work and the Android/Blackberry app would always be hours/days behind the iPhone app. Under these circumstances, an Android or Blackberry app is extremely unlikely.

What are the chances that Rothgar could expose the XML data file(s) that update the iPhone app? I assure you 2 weeks is PLENTY of time for someone to produce, publish, and get approved an Android app and possibly a Blackberry app (they are a bit slower on approval).

I love the iPhone app. I truly appreciate the effort Rothgar put into it! But if you want other platforms to have apps, then make the Data available. It's an easy fix and then I think you wouldn't get a single complaint from anyone here (a rarity)!

Was it something I said? Again Rothgar's app is great, and I applauded him for it last year. If the data that drives the iPhone app were available to everyone, you'd see Android, Blackberry, etc. apps within days. SMILEY

I just wanted to state that there were some missed connections here and I think Rothgar was extremely busy. If you send him a PM on the forums, he'll provide you with the Fan Faire schedule data. I and at least one other person got the correct XML data feed link from him at Fan Faire. Assuming this link doesn't change, I'd expect Android and other apps next year.
