Ten Ton Hammer caught up with EQ2 Producer Scott Hartsman who was kind enough to talk with us about the new expansion.  Want to know which zones we'll see and get a look at the new race? Don't miss this exclusive video and interview.

Deffinately an interesting first look at Kunark along with Mr. Hartsman's comments.

1st.  Did he say he had to reach for a "Cheat Sheet"? SMILEY

2nd. Didn't quite hear it but what was he saying about the eldar dragons?

There is a lot of noise (which apparently is one aspect they haven't changed about E3).  They included the highlights right below the video which name a few of the dragons.

Good Lord... he saved the best statement for last.  Tell SoE to amplify the raid zone lockout changes, where they will allow a raid force to come back and start where they left off.  This is a huge improvement/change that is going to get alot of love from the community.

Thanks!

Yes. SMILEY

For some reason yesterday, I kept forgetting at least one thing to talk about each time I talked with someone, so I had scribbled notes nearby.

I bet it had something to do with getting up at 6 to make it down to the hall in time.

Really, 6am is generally best viewed from the perspective of the night before.  Not the day of.

I firmly believe that diurnal scheduling of business is biased against those of us who are nocturnal and that we really need to start being more friendly towards operating during decent hours * nod *

Looks good. Looks good. I am liking the idea of the instance lockout revamp. It will help people who have jobs/families and commitments (like myself) to be able to raid more than just 'short' zones like labs. I'm a devout believer that having a life outside of the game makes you no less 'hardcore' as many seem to think SMILEY. Anyway yay. Just hope it gets parallel release in Australia this time *grumble* *grumble. SMILEY

From what Lotus said in another thread, that doesn't look like the end PC model for Sarnak. Is it? It looks absolutely amazing! The zones look absolutely amazing - the amount of detail is awesome. I think you guys are going to have a bigger hit on your hands than EoF!SMILEY

Maybe it's just the settings I run at, but I was not particularly impressed with the visuals in the current expansion, Echoes of Faydwer.  That's why I'm thrilled by this video.  Maybe I'd change my tune up close but what I could see looked pretty [Removed for Content] nice.  No lack of epic vistas and whiz-bang graphic features.  Even 4 months from release the artwork was impressive.  I really look forward to playing Rise of Kunark.

Its great footage, and thanks for posting that Radar! I think that is just a small glimpse of what we can expect.  The bar was raised with EoF, so I'm expecting RoK to be even more spectacular.

6 am is for sleeping ...

I found this confusing .. " sebilis ... the froglocks are no longer in charge .. so you won't see much of the Froglocks ... what you will see is a lot of familiar faces .. Lots of Froglocks .. "

 ... eh?

---

side note:  Bald is sexy SMILEY

-------

and a side plea to the Devs doing the Map UI work on this expansion ...

Please, PLEASE .. use shading to break up the map for the different "zones".   ie: light brown to represent 1 zone .. shading into a slightly darker brown for the next .. etc .. I love the muliple tiers in EoF but it's sometimes difficult to give directions to someone who hasn't been to "X" location .. dislike getting around in Neriak for the same reason .. easy to say the Fighter Trainers are in NQ but .. I can't remeber where they are in Neriak because it's all pretty much 1 big blur of a zone.  Only thing I can ever remember is the docks and the Throne room.

Persistent combat instances! Does this mean we don't have to spend over 4 hours in a zone, we can come back? .... Please Estate of Unrest! Don't forget us Group players!

He did specifically say that this would apply to group instances as well.  My question is how would that apply to groups members that left the instance at different stages.  For Example, say I'm in an Unrest group that clears up to the point of The Priest of Fear and then the group breaks up.  Afterwards I see an advertisement for a new group forming up that wants to head to Unrest.  So I join them.  Now lets say hypothetically that each group member of the new group I joined had already spent some time in Unrest that day and their groups fell apart at different stages of the zone.  Group member one killed the Bartender, group member two got the chef's recipe, group members three and four cleared up to the Hag, and group member five made it to the tinkerer.  So would the new group zone into a zone that is cleared to the furthest point (aka the Hag)?

If that is the case then it would be relatively easy to semi-exploit the zone.  For instance, say I'm two-boxing and I'm in a group that clears up to the final boss fight (Garanel).  If I dropped my boxed character and brought in a different player or an alternate boxed character and finished off the zone, then I would be able to bring back the boxed character and reform a group with new people or group member's alts and kill the final boss again w/o the trouble of the 3hr clear time.  If I'm understanding that right, would that be possible?  Or would the persistant zone still affect the logged out boxed character too so when I log back in the zone boss is already dead?

When your instance becomes persistent you get tagged with a unique ID representing the instance.  You cannot reenter your instance while grouped with any character that has a different ID for that instance.  You can bring people who have no ID for that instance in but they will get tagged with the ID as soon as they zone in.

Essentially, it works just like WoW's raid instances work. You zone in, kill a named, and all your raid/group members get flagged for that instance.  Once flagged for an instance, you're stuck with that one until its timer resets.  You can't join another raid and go into a new instance, but people can join your raid and join your instance, as long as they haven't created a unique instance for themselves and their own raid group.  Once they've joined your instance, they're stuck with it as well, at least until its timer has resetl. Or at least that's what I'm getting from all this.

I imagine because Scott was speaking rather than moving around in game and speaking directly to the person holding the camera. Plus Scott is a nice looking man, us girls like a little bit o' eye candy with our gaming.  SMILEY

Did I catch them saying that the "froglok models where not in yet" does that mean the skeletal revamp will be in for kunark?
