I know, I must be doing something wrong. Please, someone, tell me it's so...

I was in Zek last night, soloing a group of three Rallon luggers as part of the Operation Greenhoods access quest. All were green, one up arrow. No biggie, right? My tactic was to kill one, then break the encounter and run away (bawk bawk), and then come back after I'd lost pursuit and kill another one of the now-reduced group. But for the first time ever, this tactic failed miserably! Instead of running, I kept turning back to face the mobs! Nothing I did (mashing the Help button, trying to turn away, etc.) helped. And the messages I kept getting was "You can't see your target" over and over and over and over again. Like I was still in combat.

But doesn't clicking Help stop combat? Seemed that it used to. And the weirdest thing of all -- once I'd managed (by pure luck, I'm thinking) to get some distance away, I suddenly turned around and was running (not by choice!) back to the mobs who were pursuing me! Eventually, after much cursing and hollering, I managed to get away. You know that message you used to see when this happens: "This encounter will no longer offer rewards" or some such? Well, I didn't get this message. Instead, I got the message "You are not allowed to attack this target" or something very similar.

Just to make sure (yeah, I'm a glutton for punishment), I tried again, and the same thing happened. Crapola!

Very strange. Very annoying. And I hope it's just something I'm doing wrong, and not a new feature. Like mobs being able to taunt you, and changing your target.

OOOH  OOOH MISTER CARTER I KNOW THE ANSWER OOOOOOH!!!!

Its the auto attack staying on after breaking the ecnounter Mista Cahter!!

After clicking run like a chicken you must turn off the auto attack whether it is ranged or melee...can be either.  It will keep you turning to face the encounter...

Grooaann....I suspected it was something like that, Saihung. Guess I gotta put those little buttons back on my hotbar...just more clickie clickie. SMILEY One final question: I turned 42 last night. Why am I just noticing this now?

Possible answer: I've spend the last 24 levels grouping?

Hmm...I'd almost forgotten the different dynamics to soloing. Guess it shows! SMILEY

You're my Friday hero, Sai.

FWIW, the tilde key (~ right next to the number 1 on your keyboard) is the default key for toggling melee autoattack. IIRC, Shift+ ~ is for ranged autoattack.

Or you can turn off the auto face mob in the options menu. Then this wont happen even if auto attack is on.

Or you can make a macro for your yell button and add the toggle for auto attack off.

So many answers..

Thank you SMILEY

I found another work around to most issues regarding bugs...if you turn off you computer they stop happening.  I am not sure if it works for everyone though...might just be me.

Yeah, Saihung,  that MIGHT work, but I think (and I could be wrong, it's entirely possible, perhaps even probable) that turning off the 'puter will make playing EQ2 extreeeeemely hard.

(I said hard. giggle.)
