Someone else had a similar problem and it was because they had a resolution on their beta install that the monitor/video card didn't support, you might have a similar configuration problem.
Your video card if failing to swap the front and back buffers.
You can try copying the following files from your live install to your beta install folder(if they exist):
eq2.ini
eq2_recent.ini
eq2_default.ini
then repatch your beta (rerun the beta patcher).
If that doesn't work:
Go into your beta folder and look for EQ2Settings.exe
Run that
Click the "settings" tab at the top and take a look at that stuff. Make sure it looks good for your system. I might recommend setting "General Performance" to "Extreme Performance" just this one to get you in. Once in game you can adjust the settings in game back to what you would like.
