The idea here (I think) is that Ancient Shroud and Deathward become more akin to emergency abilities while building and maintaining the crit bonus group buff.  You'll want to avoid them to maintain the crit bonus, but they can be applied instantly if they're needed in a pinch.

I like that particular aspect of the mechanic a lot.
