I fixed my own problem. Turns out it was the video card driver. I have a Radeon X1650 AGP. My drivers apparently were too recent and I had to downgrade from 8.4 to 7.7, which is from July 2007 *sigh*. It works now.Also note that every other game / application worked fine with my new drivers, EQ2 was the only game that crashed with them.
