I think that the only reason that you get your spells reset when going from exile to a city faction is because that's how SOE decided to deal with the required class change that occurs when you betray a non-neutral class to the opposite faction. Remember, it used to be that you could only betray below level 20, and that was back when you'd go from archetype to class to subclass. Once they allowed betrayal at all levels, they had to figure out how to deal with the issue of a person's new class not having the same spells as the old class.And then what about those neutral classes that just want to switch factions but don't want to change classes? I'm sure SOE just decided to reset spells in all cases, because otherwise people would complain about how unfair it is that neutral classes can switch factions without losing spells (provided they don't switch classes).I don't think SOE made it this way because they felt that being exile should be hard. I think it was purely a clean solution to a technical problem. Personally I think it would be great if you could keep your spells, but I think there's a technical issue there that may not have a simple solution.1. If you say that you should keep your spells if you don't switch classes, then what about those neutral classes that switch factions but still choose the same class? They'd get to keep their spells, so that doesn't seem fair.2. If you say that you should keep your spells if you don't switch classes and return to the city from which you came, then what if you've been exile for years and you suddenly decide to return? Does that really make sense? So you could take a Dirge and exile for 2 years, then suddenly decide to go back to your original city with no penalty, and yet another person could take their Dirge, exile, and then a week later join the opposite faction and they lose all their spells? That doesn't really seem fair either.
