The cast version and the melee version of spells are only barely linked. The quality of your cast version has no impact on the quality of your melee version, and visa versa. The quality of your melee version is controlled by how many points you have in the ability. With 5 points in an ability, you get the 'Adept 3' version of it, which compares closely to the damage done with the AD3 version of the cast spell. One caveat though is that the cold debuff melee attack does more damage but less debuff, so I generally pull with the cast version, then grind away with the melee CAs.I'm spec agi/str/wis on the druid tree and wardens (with 5 points in SoW) on the side. The 75% melee crit works amazingly with the CA's, I crit like mad.The 40% double attack from Str coupled with 8 points in the heal proc from str4 means that I can generally melee most things down only casting a single HoT.
