First off, you must not have seen many rollouts if you think this was bad. You should look around and check some of the reviews on older MMO's. I know you'll see much worse.
Secondly, it shouldn't be a suprise to anyone when a shipment dosn't arrive on the exact *day* you expect it. There are too many factors at play. The CD/DVD replication and packaging industry is doing peak numbers this time of year, and I assure you there are clients much more important then EQ2 players. The bottom line, if your going to order something via mail, don't freak out if it dosn't arrive the very minute/day you ordered it. Beyond that, it shouldn't be a suprise when anything you've ordered shows up. If you've ordered something that you require in a certain timeframe, you should be asking the company you purchased it from for a tracking number/waybill so you can track it on your end.
Finally, anyone that's been around for a couple weeks know's full well that Sony will not advertise this game. They also know that they don't stock it on store shelves. This isn't something new, and has been around for the past couple expansions.
Was the patch time reasonable? - Yes
Was the server stable? - Yes
Did they need to bring it down for emergency patching during prime time? - No
Overall, I'd say it was an extremely smooth launch.
