Currently I'm lvl 43 with 51 AA, and I've only recently turned off my XP, and have gained quite a few AA's, believe I was 40 with 42 AA's. But my playing partner, she's turned off her XP a while ago and is lvl 43, with 71 AA. While we both would already be in our 50's if we left the XP on. I have read that the higher you get the slower your AA goes.
So maybe having your XP turned off, and having fun working on the huge number of mid-lvl quests is the way to go. At 43, we have Zek, Enchanted Lands, Ferrott, Steamfront, Neriak Castle (Yes even at 43, you have the Lord Everling series to do) and there are others I'm sure I'm forgetting. Each quest completed is AA, while at higher lvls the number of zones and quests starts to decrease. Leaving your XP on, you will quickly turn all these nice mid-lvl quests, grey. It's easier to turn off your XP and keep doing quests, than raise in lvl and look for groups to mentor down to.
