I view it as all being about another tool in the bag that you might pull out or might not need. If I have a healer pet charmed then I'm much less likely to use ranged as they often seem to have a smaller number of nukes plus they can heal themselves. If I have a wizard or pure caster I want ranged on every time. I normally try to find the best pet in an area and stick with it rather than constantly cycling through less effective pets. Should clarify that I'm referring to solo. In groups it shouldn't matter unless the best pets are few and far between and you don't have a chance to replace it easily...then I'd still use ranged. I think this command is more important for us as coercers than any of the other classes that use pets because we don't have the ability to just create a new one on the spot unless we are willing to possibly settle for a sub-par pet from whatever happens to be nearby.
