This was one of my first paintings done with photoshop. I now have Painter 9 which rocks! But I thought I'd share this painting since it was one of my very first..
The sketchSince this was going to be totally digital, I didn't concentrate much on getting fine details on my sketch. I wanted to be sure that I got the main elements out, but I didn't worry about details. As you can tell... Shylah is one stupid looking kerra right now

Larger ImagePainting the FaceAs a habit, I tend to get details out way sooner than I should... here, you can see that I've started to paint the face of Shylah. And you can also see that I made her eye way detailed for such a preliminary step. Usually, you should paint all your flat colors first and then work in the details... eh, but who's countin'?

I guess it would be good for me to note that the sketch is on one layer. The tan background is on a layer, and the Shylah's face is also on a separate layer.
Layers are your friends!
Larger ImageThis is just a very slight progression. I've painted in the other eye and messed around with her nose. Here, the nose is way too small and slightly to the left... it needs to be larger and to the right.
Larger ImageDetails to Face and Armor FlatsWell, here you can see that I made all the changes needed for the nose. You can tell that it looks much better and more proportional. I've also added more details to the face to make it more three dimensional. You can also see that I did 'step 1' for the armor. The crazy mess you see with the armor is what Shylah's face first looked like before I started to detail her eyes. The armor is going to be chainmail with gold and brass trimming/bindings. The armor is gonna really suck... and that's why I have yet to finish her
