Just gotta time it so you aren't using stealth based stuff while the bird is out, which is no biggy, rangers aren't AS reliant on stealth attacks as most other scouts............. the bird would still attack with the same base dmg In raid I can see it being very useless, but not everything is made for every situation.  Not to discount that arguement really, just saying.  It might be useful enough to turn the mob to face all the dps and healers and frontal ae them in the face In group though I have saved several wizzies from death with it.  It allows the tank to pull adds or whatnot of the armorless faster, once I even noticed the mob aggro my bird a second before the tank completely took control.  Also, those dps with less aggro control can nuke with more freedom when the bird is up, and since it is a temp pet they can see its up and little communication is needed to get at least some use from it.  Tank would be able to get taunts off faster and healer could heal faster, aggroing adds shouldn't be problem unless the ae caster is a [Removed for Content] and ae's adds before they were even taunted Soloing its great too.  I can survive being jumped far easier.  Just send the bird after the mob, deaggro, and back off.  The bird doesnt really tank, but it will distract enough for me to get to range and get some shots in.  If sniper shot is up I have the time to stealth and shoot that off.  Also, I sometimes pull with the bird and hit it to wear the mob down without getting aggro until the bird dies... I just see it in those cases as a way to extend my hp and don't do it often but it is an option. Mostly its a good distraction. Well if your still casting deaggro enough and let it hit for a couple seconds, chances are you wouldn't peel at first, as for getting in range that's the whole point of lunging joust, thorny trap, cheap shot, and snare (and the snare arrow shot whose name is eluding me right now) Finally, I just like having a pet. A hunting hawk seems very rangerish to me... wish there was a hunting dog too but that would probably unbalance things or whatever. You'd still have a pet hawk, plus theres another useless pet hawk as well as a bear and tiger
