I completely disagree that you should be settling for mediocre DPS from yourself. I typically out-DPS my Master 1 Fire Pet by quite a bit.
If you could share your technique with us, it would be greatly appreciated.
That is, after all, why I started the thread: not to be told why I should be embarassed, but rather to be told how to correct the problem.
Personally, I wouldn't be embarresed. As long as your beating the Guardian with your and your pets dps added together.
Also, what types of mobs where you fighting, meaning where they groups of mobs, or just a single heroic mob? That is goning to make a big difference. A Guardian spec'd right can do a lot of dmg very fast to a single mob. I always parse, and I've seen some Guards do a lot of dmg (usually the ones that hold agro the best do a lot of dmg themselves...)
One thing that I do regardless of if it's a group of mobs or a single mob I cast Shattered line and Seism line, even if it is a single mob (depending on how fast the mobs are dropping, if they are dropping like rocks then I don't, if it's a slower kill I will cast ST at beggining of fight). ST will still do a lot of dmg as well as Seism. Ya, they are more power and it's not as efficient on a single mob, BUT if your fighting heroics the mob is going to die fast anyways and power shouldn't be an issue. If you don't use these spells your cutting out a lot of dmg and a Daze which helps.
Make sure your main spells are Adept III, pet Adept III at least, Stance Adept III, etc. It does make a big difference. Don't plan on doing a ton of dmg if the fights are short.
If you really want good info go to http://eq2.eqsummoners.com/. The conjies there have some great tips. Don't just post asking, look at the existing posts. There is a lot of good info on what AA's to get, what order to cast spells in, what spells to upgrade first, etc. It's a great site with great info.
