If you burn through the mobs faster you won't need to heal as much during the fight, and in between fights you should have full mana anyways, if you do not your drink choice is faulty not the spell...

You are underestimating overwhelming silence. For example, stifle keeps lvl 20+ mobs from barraging and that's a very good thing. Also, the endurance drain is considerable when the spell is upgraded.
