Yes you will lose your spells when you betray (no matter the class). As far as joining them, as a wizard you get a port to Gfay, so you could just use that to join up with them and play.

There may be an issue with crafting T2 armor. Since you need to have the T1 as a component, the only way I see you being able to craft this for an alt is to make T1 and then T2 before the alt wears...
