maybe you could use a flying mount and get there, rather then expecting the devs to cave to a roleplayer's gripe that the game isn't tailored to their desire to walk everywhere?

flying mounts have been standard transport of a while now, ToV required flying mounts, AoM you could walk/swim by flying was much faster with the speed increaser objects in the air and PoP is back to the pure flying experience/use teleporters you flew to before.

jsut because one person likes walking doesn't mean they should design every zone so you can walk anywhere, at level100 you should have a flying mount, you've had plenty of time to get one.

So, some people obviously don't understand how important maintaining your character's appearance is when it comes to roleplay, so let me just say this...if the devs would 'fix' it so that a person can maintain their illusion even while mounted...problem resolved. Popping out of your illusion in order to fly when trying to maintain consistency with your characters in a roleplay environment simply isn't possible under the current circumstances of the game, with flight being so all-important as many of you stated, and doesn't provide a friendly environment to those who like to roleplay.

This is an easy fix that should have been considered when creating said illusions, and I can completely understand Ceyarrecks reluctance to use flight because of this. I say easy fix, because there are already some illusions which do allow you to maintain them while mounted...such as the currently available Pickclaw goblin illusion from the NotD merchant, which I enjoy using on occasion for the cute and funny antics my character can perform while in this illusion form.

It would simply be a matter of taking the current coding from these illusions that do allow you to maintain the illusion while mounted, and transferring said coding to the illusions that do not currently allow you to maintain them while mounted. In Ceyarrecks case, this would be the Burynai illusion forms for his characters. As a measure of goodwill, I know that Ceyarrecks would greatly appreciate, as would I, if the devs would fix this illusion form so he can maintain his Burynai form while mounted.

As a measure of goodwill towards all their customer base, it would be nice if they would 'fix' all the illusions in the game which do not currently allow you to maintain them while mounted. I realize to change all the illusions would take some time and with such limited staff, they may not be able to justify the time it would require, but to change one illusion would only take seconds, and knowing which illusion that is should only help to speed up the process, which is why I make mention of it here, in hopes that some dev somewhere will be kind and considerate enough to make this change. Thank you!

Drunder is one that comes to mind. Flying transports were in the game long before DoV. Nektulos Forest, Antonica even Lavastorm has the flying transport. The flying carpets, Sokokar and cloud transport as well. While I understand roleplayers desire to "play" the part when in the game I think they need to remember the fact flying transports and our own ability to fly has been a large part of the game for a very long time. there is nothing in the LORE of the game that I can recall that says a Burynai cannot use one of the many magical flying creatures to get around.

ok, so the issue is on a flying mount, the illusion drops and breaks the roleplay, right?

.....hmmm....

A passing stranger offers to carry your little (insert illusion name here) self in her bag, for safety. They secure you, mount up, and fly to the area. After landing, they notice a shiny in the distance, and unceremoniously disembark you, bound for shiny things. You carry on in your travels, grateful for the lift, but slightly perturbed at the landing.

I suppose a Burynai could just plop down onto a Pegasus mount like they do on the ground or a sofa in their sitting position, though, so I don't see much of an issue when it comes to this particular illusion form. Their arms wouldn't really need to have their positions changed as they could be holding the reins in their hands which hang at their sides while sitting, and being the small fat creatures they are, they wouldn't really need to be leaning forward while mounted on such a mount, so I don't see any real issues with their 'skeletal' features the way they currently are. I can see where other illusions might have to receive major changes to their 'skeletons' in order to be used on a flying mount, though.

Sentrasia 10-24-2017 12:46 AM

Actually, I just tested getting to Khali'Vhala with no mount on, just a featherfall cloak, and was able to do it quite easily. This was starting on the ground (Kanda Uplands area to be exact) by running, and jumping 1-2 times, until I was all the way up the mountain spire thing then feather falling into Khali'Vhala. Once you get there just grab the teleport pad and be done with it.

So... you can already do it quite easily without Dev's having to mess with old illusions.

Took less than 5 minutes to find a way up. Only needed the featherfall cloak at the end to float from the top of the spire down into Khali'Vhala.

Nelie 10-24-2017 08:49 PM

You do not have to break roleplay, break your illusion, use a mount and/or jump and climb anything with the following options:

Conj Call of the Hero
Call of Veteran (<--when they fix it, of course being beta right now)
Call of the Tinkerer

ALL reasonable options. The ONLY problem I see for a roleplayer just purely walking is reaching the random floating islands with the elemental mobs and the Valor island and the Reach island (However, the 3 options above will help you get the teleport pad on the 2 islands).

Ceyarrecks Wunnfirr 10-24-2017 09:14 PM

Indeed.
and Thank You Daemora, very thoughtful responses. (/e wonders why there is no "Like" option here)
And regarding the "Free Travel," "Bell Travel," "Calls of,.." etc. these are all in place due to those, choose NOT to use patience, wanting it !Right. NOW! and whined about traveling on a boat for just a few minutes to arrive at a nearby continent. (recalling historically, boat travel was usually measured in weeks)
All of these do what is known as "breaking the illusion" or "disrupt the suspension of disbelief;" both of which are antithetical to a "Role-Playing" environment.

Additionally, traveling by foot allows one to learn the lay of the land, and certainly to find shinies

If this were REAL, here's what would happen to you. You would zone into PoM. You would start in spire island. You would NEVER make it off it because your toon has a fear of flying, chooses not to fly etc. in reality, or RP, your toon would NEVER choose to explore this realm. From an RP standpoint, it makes NO logical sense that a gamer would request a re-design. Your character would simply avoid PoM altogether.

Granted since you can float down, I can see a character finding alternative ways, but if there are NO ways to get up to the platform, then your character would either avoid them or the zone altogether. Alternatively, RP with a conj who doensn't mind flying and have them COH you up. Then neither of you break RP. I dont consider COH a right now thing. In MANY MMOs, mages can teleport people to them or they can port to others. Teleporting in EQ/EQ2 has been a way of life and part of the universe, and people WOULD teleport if norrath were real. so I dont buy the argument that teleport breaks or ruins the immersion. I CAN see how the bell might or fast travel, but a clever RPer could find a way to incorporate that as well

Now outside of RP , and on to real life. No WAY DBG is going to devote hours to adding a ramp to go up 2000 ft into the air to accommodate RP.

They may at "little" things, but they are not going to alter the landscape. My suggestion: That in the RP universe your character learns to like flying in areas where they have no choice, or whatever you need to alter within them to fit into the "laws" of the universe you RP in

Vanyel 10-29-2017 11:40 AM

As far as illusions breaking on flying: they HAVE to

The game devs have never coded animations for non playable races for mounts, and they probably lack the monetary and employee budget to ever change this.basically the models that do work share the same "skeleton"

It's no easy task to animate a skeletal model, skin, clothes etc. It would be nice if they didn't have to break, but again, I highly doubt this will change. Not enough percent of the player base wants this.

TBH balancing classes, consolidating spells/abilities, and other things would have a far far higher priory

dont get me wrong. I'm not judging or saying you shouldn't ask for these things.. but realistically, they are not a practical request - especially for a 13 year old MMO
