I was in Halls of Fate tonight pulling droags for our main tank.Near Sothis I pulled a couple of the larger droag Skarize. I got 2 and before I could FD the MT had taunted, so there I was tanking one. I used Stone Deaf and to my surprise, I was struck for about 2k in damage from Vanquishing Blow and I believe a second hit of around 1700 of normal slashing damage. I believe my Hit Points were around 7300.. I might be a little off there. Is this normal for Stone Deaf to not work?

It absorbs Magical Damage only. Heat/Cold/Divine etc.

Yeah, don't confuse Stone Deaf with a monk's Tsunami. Tsunami does let a monk parry 100% of attacks (melee only I believe).

Stone deaf OWNS!!!!

I had requested to tank NPC from 3rd step of carpet quest..

I got 1-shotted by Ice comet for 16k !!!! My cold resist was 700ish so it was pretty low..

I learned the lesson and re-try it again with stone deaf on.. OMG!! It made my day when I saw that 16k dmg got absorbed.

I don't see how Monk of my same level and uses my mastercrafted gear can tank that npc unless he/she got cold resist pumped up high..

Message Edited by Nocifer Deathblade on 09-18-2006 08:31 AM

Stone deaf absorbs heat/cold/divine etc just fine, what it does not prevent is physical damage and vanquishing blow does crush/slash/pierce, not any sort of magical damage.

If you examine the spell it explains that it absorbs all non-physical damage.

It's an amazingly good spell.

Argest

Najena

Message Edited by Gorag1 on 09-18-2006 09:26 AM

Question i asked before but never really got an answer.

Is there any reason to buy the fabled version of stone deaf. It says in the description higher tier versions of the spell have a greater chance at absorbing damage. But i never see stone deaf fail.

MakhailSamma 09-19-2006 12:44 AM

The only reason I can see to buy it is if your like me and just have to have everything mastered..

Plus, in the future, they may change it, so if you already have the master, you won't have to worry.

When I bought it, it didn't even have an Apprentice/adept/master tag.

I have the Adept1 version (dropped treasured) and it's never failed to absorb a hit. Level 74 epic 60k boss AEs, player ice novas and fusions. Works perfectly.
