I have a pair of feysteel cestii looted in RoV that I was looking forward to using when I hit lvl 34. So like the day before this latest patch I hit 34 and equip them, woohoo! Go to town on some lower level mobs to raise my slashing skill and get it to a level that I am happy with before I log off... Now comes this latest patch and the dmg type on the cestii has been switched to piercing. No problem right? Just spend a couple more hours building up piercing to an acceptable level. Wrong I went from level 34 to 35 with one of these in my off hand and have not gotten a single skill up. I have bugged it and /petitioned it but was wondering if anyone else has noticed this?

feysteel cestii is slashing still... cestus are piercing

|
For you and the rest of Norath perhaps.... but when I attack something with them the combat log says pierce. Neither piercing nor slashing is increasing for me. I must be bugged... hope they fix me.
|
I noticed the same thing and hope they fix it soon.

Actually I noticed the same thing. Since March 18ths patch in fact. I have pristine strengthened cesti and cestus (one of them spiked is the piercing). Ive used these things for 8 or more levels. I equipped them the other day to raise my slashing and piercing skills while over the course of a few hours (And for some reason their DPS rating was higher then my Treasured Augmented Fist Wraps (But the other day I noticed they were lower, this #$(* game is getting wierder by the day). Anyway. Slashing raised fairly quickly, Piercing not at all. I was getting the correct battle spam of piercing and slashing damage but no skill ups in piercing. I swapped positions of primary and secondary and still ...only received slashing skill ups. I even took slashing totally out for a few fights and still, no piercing skill ups. I was fighting greens the whole time. So yeah, Im seeing it too.

They have definitely changed from Slashing damage to Piercing Damage.

I have the same issue (skill not raising).

I submitted a CS ticket 2 days ago to which i got a reply saying the Devs are aware and are working on it, and to submit a /bug as well.

On the upside it appears only to be the counter as my skill says i am some 100 points below where i should be yet i appear to be doing the correct damage with the weapons during combat.

Hope this helps

Ok this is wacky... I'll admit I haven't been beating on many mobs in the past 24 hours, as I've been hell bent on harvesting the last time I got a chance to play yesterday... I'll check out my skills and play with it a bit when I get home this morning though. If I notice any thing like this I'll bug it and post feedback here.

dunno about u but my Feysteel Cestii r doing crushing dmg.

40 Bruiser

Anihen Nektulos

Didnt the patch notes say that all of our fist weapons were gonna go off of our fist skill as modifier but different weapons would do different damage type. I took that to mean the only combat skills we would have that would go up would be crush. I played for a few hours last night and honestly did pay any attention. I will check it out tonight.

Message Edited by Wilhelm92 on 03-24-2005 06:16 AM

It was my understanding that with this week’s patch all hand to hand weapons would now only use the skill of crushing to determine damage rating and skill.

Meaning that if you use a H2H you should only gain crushing skill.

However, your damage OUTPUT should still be determined by the type of H2H weapon you are wielding, i.e. cestii will do slashing, cestus will pierce, wraps will crush.

Yep, tried to skill up both slashing and piercing - no skill ups happened. Gave up after an hour.
|

there are no longer issues where you have to raise the skills guys, its all fist skill, the only thing that you will notice is the type of damage that the actual weapon is actually doing when you attack.

so that we dont have to constantly upgrade piercing and slashing and crushing, the only skills that will raise is the crushing skill./

i know its sloppy but they just tied them together without taking the others out, my piercing and slashing are at 55 for piercing and 121 for slashing , but i do damage the same no matter what weapon i put on.

|

I killed some stuff this morning and didn't notice a difference in my to hit rate between the different weapons... in other words I am hitting as accurately with pierce weapons as I am with crushing weaps. Looks like wilhelm's and sage's explanation is correct.

Sorry, false alarm

Message Edited by Dzhokari on 03-24-2005 07:49 PM

And that all doesnt explain while Im still getting SLASHING skill ups. So they either forgot to disable Slashing (most likely). Guess I just need things spelled out for me.

Fists will raise by increments via exp. Crushing will raise by use. We will no longer get slashing and piercing skill ups but the weapons will still do piercing, slashing and crushing damage but will determine to hit via Fists skill and damage via Crushing skill. Is that the correct interpertation?

|

yeah, different types of damage in game dont serve any purpose (as of yet_ ) other than to make for mob immunities later in game to certain types of attacks. But im going to assume that since we have such a limited weapon set, it was simpler to make it this way considering that we are the only class that uses them in such exclusiveness (if thats a word).

If slashing is still going up, yeah = thats a bit wierd. are you noticing any lack of ability to attack?

and BTW= thanks for the 1 stars, sometimes i actually earn them, and to think.. i was being helpful for once, ahh well.

|

So you are saying that they completely trashed the system. That now, no matter what weapon we use it will be tied to our root "fist" skill?

I am not complaining here, and I am certain that noone understand how the system is supposed to work (like AC, they have no clue), but I cannot believe they dumbed down the combat to only key off of one skill.

Can you show some evidence of this, Sage? (not busting your chops mn, just very hard to believe)

|

i can confirm, that of march 24th, peircing skill would not raise, but slashing would.

i was using adorberg fists (piercers according to battlespam) and some 5-word-cestus that did slashing.

slahsing raised the missing 7 points in 2 fights, piercing did not, its still lagging behind the same 7 points as slashing had before the action.

|

ditto. went from 2 crushing weapons to 1 slash and 1 pierce. started with 40/150 slash and 100/150 pierce. currently 146/155 slash 100/155 pierce

|
having the same problem here, just bought a cestus and a cestii for when somthing might be immune to crushing. slashing has been going up in skill but piercing is stuck at 45 unbuffed, thuugh Im meleeing based on some other skill (im 40 fightin green heroic dust adders with that and 130 slashing, winning)
|
My pierce skill is not raising either, slash raises enough to keep it maxed. /bugged it , and also started a CS ticket, the GM replied and said that "Skill gain is quite slow at higher levels" ... roflmao 119/155 pierce for 3 days? yet slash stayed maxxed? I even spent money on different weapons thinking maybe it was the weapon that was bugged. Nope.

|

Agreed - pierce skill is not raising with use. At the same time, hit/miss rations seem to be the same for pierce weapon (45 skill) and crush weapon (200+ skill) when dual wielding. So, do I care?

Coryn, 42 bruiser, Crushbone

|
Thought it was me - having same exact problem at lvl 34 - pierce not going up - ugh. Keeping blunt in offhand and have added 6 skill points in a lvl - nothing for pierce
|

It's my understanding that every fist weapon uses your crushing + fist skill now, regardless of whether it does crushing/piercing/slashing damage. It's easy to test actually...equip 2 weapons that do piercing or slashing and see if you get crushing skill ups.

My main hand is a pristine imbued augmented cestus and my DPS is as high as ever, even though my piercing skill is like 30/215 and slashing 54/215.
