You know you're a Newbie when...

1. You get killed by a city guard when asking for directions

2. You forget to turn on auto-consume food and drink

3. You keep asking people where the guild hall is, but you're not in a guild

4. You wonder what happens when you hit the space bar while flying on a griffon over hostile territory

I know these are not THAT creative, but it's a start...

you know your a noob when you don't know what a body pull is.

there was a lvl 80 guardian that grouped with my buddy and my buddy told him to body pull the mobs and that guy asked what a body pull was. My buddy kicked him outta the group then got a new tank

...you don't know what rendering distance is and run around practically blind for nearly 30 levels.

This, I did. In EQ1, my first mmo. I had no idea rendering distance existed on my options, and I was always wondering how people could be talking about these things I couldn't see waaaaaaay out in the fog. I figured they just had better gear than me or something.

So sad. lol.

you know your a noob when you buy an expasion when your only level 15

hmm... I have tried thinking about this for several minuets now and I cant recall having any good high quality noobie moments in this game... For me it was all just a matter of learning the mechanics and I was fairly proactive about that. Now back when I was playing Dark Age of Camelot around 02.... now there I had some quality noobie moments *grin* Turned out those gates wernt simply leading to the fertile leveling grounds after all!!! (someone will catch the reference lol).....

(EQ1) When you target an NPC and attempt to type /hail (also a newbie move, as I thought you typed all the commands out) but miss the slash and type "H A", which is followed shortly by "LOADING, PLEASE WAIT..."

The above scenario happened no less than 200 times...

You roll a brawler

|

.... when it take you 2 weeks to figure out what the bells are for.

way back when EQ2 started and there were lots of quests all linked together in the city suburbs it took me 2 weeks of running and zoning through every city section/suburb to get from one end to the other before I realized that this handy little bells on the dock of each suburb actually did anything. EverQuest will forever be called EverRun in our household.

Thunndar316 wrote:

You roll a brawler

I am guilty of this one. But in my defense, I rolled my brawler within 30min of the servers opening on launch day, so I really WAS a newbie.

When you don't understand the concept of AoE spells and you carelessly blast away. This wasn't such a problem for me in EQ2 but when I first started playing Final Fantasy XI I was a BLM. I was in a Valkurm Dunes party and leveled up and got my first AoE - Stonega. It was my highest damage spell, so I let it rip. I hit a ton of linking IT++ leeches (equivalent of red^^^) and proceeded to get my entire group owned followed by some nice level down animations and sound effects.

you can read a thread like this and find some useful tips. Auto-consume food you say... *makes mental note*

"4. You wonder what happens when you hit the space bar while flying on a griffon over hostile territory"

<- Only found this one out yesterday after 60 levels.

Another from EQ1 -- When you try out your brand new bard song at the entrance to the city, then wonder why those guards just killed you.... (first AE song, and it took 2 tries to realize just what was happening lol).

I don't know any veterans that have auto-consume on. It is a waste of food and drink.

You have a froglock with the word: frog or hop somehow worked into it.

You have a Ratonga with either rat or cheese in the name.

... a kerran with 'cat', 'kitty', 'puss' in the name.

Those are generally failsafes for finding someone new to mmo play.

You see the tower in Antonica, climb up and wonder what its for....then are too chicken to choose from the list that pops up.

(From when you had to walk to the edge of the tower and a list would auto pop so you could choose a destination. It took me a few goes before I was brave enough to just click one )

here is a EQ1 one for you. You know you are a noob when you think a bard can use a 2handed axe.

I had a bard come up to me I was a lvl 15 warrior with the axe of iron back and this bard asked if I had bard weapons for the axe of frost. I told him I had the axe of iron back and traded it to him for the better axe. Once he realized he couldn't use it I ran off.

My very first toon, I was doing the city citizenship quest and fell off a porch in Graystone Yard. I had no idea how to "jump". I stayed there 2 days, doing a /petition and everything. My family would come and look at me sympathetically. Finally, my brother happened to mention had I tried hitting the space bar.

Thanks for catching that mistake Ranja! All of the replies so far have been excellent!! I can't wait to read more newb stories!!

I fell off one of the ledges and died stuck in a wall. I had no way to reach my corpse so I had to /petition to be rescued! I felt really stupid...

...when you group invis through Chardok and then harvest a shiny. (I didnt do that, but saw it)

...when you are a druid that loots a blue buckler with towershield appearance and then want to show your guardian how easy HoF tankage is on a linked group of yellow^^^.

... when you enter Chelsith still the teleport hammer equipped...

HAHA Our healer did this and went *poof* on our first pull... made for an interesting fight.

... running up to Holly Windstalker (back when she was a badass) to ask her for a quest.

... missing the teleporter pad in the Qeynos Mage Tower and falling to your death.

... listening to the troubie (who was tanking) during the first week of play while out in Archer's wood "Its a [Removed for Content] deer, how much damage can it do?" before he agroed a ^^^ Hart.

... solo pulling one of the antelopes in Thundering Steppes and then getting zerged by the little bleeters from hell.

So many from EQ1...ahhhh memories.

I used to get hopelessly lost (so I thought, I was actually usually close to Felwithe anyways) and die in order to get back home (to my bind point).

I wondered when it was going to be daytime in Greater Faydark.

The first time I clicked on a PoK book I thought I had been transported to some hostile zone and freaked out. Invised and snuck around, trying to avoid the guards.

Dying in Lesser Faydark (hey, what's this place? I wondered) and then dying 3 more times trying to find my corpse (I hate brownies).

The very first mob I aggroed, a Crushbone orc...I ran around in circles until I died, hoping he'd leave me alone.

Not knowing about gamma settings and wondering why it was always pitch black wherever I went.

Being a magician and having no idea I had a pet.

Rolling a druid cause I wanted to be able to turn into a wolf. For funny raid moments, use feral pack + MGB after a wipe...teach you not to die on raids

In EQ2...forgetting to rebuff the float type buff and jumping off of something only to go splat.

In my guild's hall they used the teleporter pads to make one area way up in the sky. I just put the gnome shoes on and got the glide effect, which I am so not used to. Glided off the edge and splatted right in front of the guild hall door as my friend was zoning in. /tell [Removed for Content] did you just die?

Oh so many nice memories ... some of the more recent smart actions: Getting Feign Death as a SK, trying it and still die (fail) ... then remove the button because you dont know what it does ... and only remember you have it 3 months later after you learned what it should do. Joining a group and after a few deaths remembering you have your tradeskill items on ... Joining a group and tank and after a few deaths finding out your still in offensive stance with offensive gear ...

When you reach level 24 on 3 chars then discover something called grandmaster spells

when after playing on a PVP server and listening to your group members saying "so and so" is on recent and thinking that they have a special add-on to tell them.

/recent ftw
