In PvP, you need to preserve stealth to get your big attacks off, and you need to go stealth while being hit by your enemy. Doesn't it make sense then to prefer avoidance over mitigation? If you parry, block or evade an attack while stealthed, you will stay stealthed, and get a chance to get your stealth attacks off. If you had mitigated the blow, you would come out of stealth.I was thinking, for a pvp assassin, wouldn't it make sense to wear leather armor, a round shield and a 1-hander, and get as many items with +defense and +parry as possible to really up your avoidance?PvP is not about auto attack damage for the most part anyway, since battles are often over in 1-10 seconds. The loss of auto attack damage would be tiny... auto attack is only a factor in longer battles, group vs group settings, raids etc. This might be true for solo PvE as well, where you will get hit by the mob and don't have a tank to tank for you.Has anyone tried a more unconventional approach to assassins with a sword and shield and leather armor?

I play a lvl 70 assassin on a PVP server and ya know what.......I agree with you. However, it is situational.

Fights at lvl 70 just seem really hard for an assassin these days and sure, invis breaks all the time. I am thinking about the shield and one hander approach more and more.

You are correct, auto attack does not count for much in a fast fight, but against a healer for example it could be very valuable. Especially with twice the chance to proc mark.

In general I think paying an assassin is a real challenge at lvl 70 with monks, swash, etc out there. We just have one poor stun which makes life hard. But the challenge is fun.

As far as wearing leather.....that might be taking it too far. Mit is critical.

Btw, just for moving to leather, how much does your avoidance go up (assuming all stats are the same)? I know there is a factor but I am not sure what it is or how it works. Comments would be great.

So i started to play a new toon, assassin and i want to be little different so i am going to try this combination. Leather armor, shield and these AAs - str 4-4-8 wis 4-4-8 int 4-4-8.

So give me few months and i tell you how it goes

Both.

When PvPing you generally want to be in defensive stance unless you are completely sure of your ability at the assassin class, this will provide you with some defensive and avoidance.

Don't wear leather, you'll get owned hardcore.

Shields? For an assassin? If you want to do one handed dps roll a guardian, that least that way you'll be able to tank as well.

AA wise for assassins... regardless of how enticing they look with all their pretty little knock backs and stealths, stick with the old stand by of 4-4-4-8-1 str and 4-4-4-8 int. Not only will you do the best dps provided for PvP, but if you decide to raid, well than there is no reason you shouldn't be number one!

I threw that extra AA point into wisdom for thost casters, fyi~

But in regards to the title of this thread, kill them before they can attack you and you won't have to worry about either~

as the post says above it is right . i play a 70 assassin on a reg sever and a 50 assassin on pvp they work out the same as in AA . as for gear think of it this way have you ever tryed to solo with a assassin if not try it work it out on how you do a kill . and one that dont see invis < being on pvp players most times will not see you frist off on fight > pick a 10 lvl below you ^^^ green . this will test your skills and dont forgit to try new ways of killing be it avoid tank fight to a snare kiteing Bow fight . both of these's will become a factor in a PvP fight . this will git some of your basic pvp fighting skills up . next steep is takeing to the players and now you add in your dehate that pops you into steath with them skills you picked up . miti and avoid are both factors in pvp fights cant go only one way and hope to win it . all so use posions pvping and not just one go all out < Posions X 3 > you can have 3 kinds of posions going at one time one for Damge one for debuff on stat and another to stun or slow attack speed or what ever combo you want to make . all are factors in fighting this all so goes over in raiding as well . PS ... i know i talk in one big line with out spaceing stuff deal with it :smileytongue:
