What is the best Race to play . for an assassin .. i know everyone says it doesn't matter but.. there must be one superrior race because my friend made a wood elf guardian.. then got it to 40.. then he made a barbarian humen guardian and same gear, same level , same everything >_< and His wood elf brings a new level to the word Suck while his humen fighting the same mobs anihiliated them with ease -_- this leads me to believe that race does play a large factor in it.. so can anyone tell me (by the numbers) which race is best ?

Message Edited by ScaryKitty on 03-08-200606:11 PM

Message Edited by ScaryKitty on 03-08-200606:56 PM

If your really looking for the very best race for assassins, it is oddly enough... ogre. An assassins true primary stat is strength, since it has the biggest impact on damage, for every class. Agility, while it is supposed to be a primary stat for scout archetypes, is pretty much completely pointless. The amount of avoidance gained is very, very small - somewhere between 1-4% for having it capped out, not to mention that equates to less than 1% against anything yellow, heroic, or higher. The power addition is easily replacable, and if you have some form of power regen in a group, you will not be able to run out at all, due to long recast timers on CAs. Most people i've known, would rather have their combat art damage increased substantially than to be able to tank marginally better, if you should have to tank at all.

Untruth speaks the truth. But, what he says about strength and agility applies to all other stats, and any race would be a good choice for an assassin. The best choice? Whatever looks best to you, and fits your playstyle and lore.

When I made my assassin, I picked human - because humans have the best well rounded stats (all stats start at 20). You can tailor your needs from there with gear. That, and Denzel has great lookin hair. *grin*

Well I'm pretty new to the assassin game (my little sniper is still on the island actually :smileyvery-happy: ). However to answer your questions in general terms, here are the stats for the different races: Clicky! (choose Characters>Races)

AGI has a much larger impact than just 4%. I have base 300AGI, thats like 35% avoidance. Turn on def stance it jumps to almost 60%. I dont think it can go much higher than 60%. At 500 AGI, my avoidance doesn't reach 70%, so if you are already capped it probably wont affect avoidance very much.

Half-elves are the best IMO, good mix of primary stats. The extra STR from the human and extra AGI from the elf. Humans do not get bonuses to STR, but theirs is higher than an elf.

I find it interesting no one seems to interject racial traits into this sort of conversation.

Untruth 03-14-2006 12:56 PM

Bear with me, all my characters are either half-elven or ratonga :smileyvery-happy: Are there any racial traits that really make a serious difference? Most of the active abilities last a very short duration, have a 30 minute recast, and have a significantly lower value than the ability that would otherwise have the same effect. Aside from that, racials seem to make a difference of 2 defense/parry, and maybe 5 to a certain stat. I know elven races seem to get the +5 intelligence and agility trait, and i guess trolls and ogres have the stamina and strength, which would still give them the highest statistical advantage for an assassin. Of course, the drawback being that you'd be the most awqard looking thing in existence.

At 60, my half-elf assassin has a base strength of 309, and agility of 221, and about 3500 health thanks to KoS equipment and way out of preportion stats on them. Yes, i probably will overcap strength when i'm buffed, but the only class with a significantly large strength buff is beserkers, since its a pure-stat boost, concentration AoE, as opposed to a split stat boost.

Message Edited by Untruth on 03-13-200611:59 PM

Jeridor wrote:I find it interesting no one seems to interject racial traits into this sort of conversation.

I agree. Given the relative insignificance of starting stats once you get past level 20, I'd say that the racial traits are just as important. While most of the racial traits are of little practical use (like the Erudite ability to summon a wisp), some of them are quite useful (I believe dark elves get some kind of reduced invisibility as a racial trait, which might come in handy if you're playing a non-stealth class). And then there's the roleplaying value in racial traits as well (if you're into that kinda thing). Imagine being a dark elf hiding in "shroud of the night" (or whatever the trait is called) .... :smileywink:

To be honest I have found roleplaying reasons to last the longest when deciding on class, race etc. Classes change with patches. Sometimes your class is overpowered, at other times it might get 'nerfed'. But do me and yourself a favour: Do not base your choise of class or race on whatever seems to be the flavour of the month. Things WILL change, they always do - and that über-necro/ranger/wizard/warlock/whatever you rolled because it was supposed to be the 'best' dps-class might just get a few adjustments next month that will change things. It's a bit like the song: Sometimes you're behind, sometimes you're ahead ... The race is long - and in the end only with yourself.

It scales with leveling so its at 2k last i remember.....

BTW ratonga plea = super usefull when u burning a named orange or higher...other than that its not used

Im a ratonga (obviously lol) and normally eating Str food im at 365 str + with no buffs (so geting str is not an issue), most of the time im actualy now switching to some Int gear or My GEBs/ft items for power regen...group with a zerk/fury and you will be at str cap easy

i haven't looked at what stats people start with in a long time but if i had to pick a class purely based on stats that would make a good assassin , i'd say erudite. i'm sure this intially sounds ridiculous but i will explain. in eq1 erudites had the highest starting int. i don't konw if this is the case in eq2 but i'm guessing it is.i plat a ratonga who have a high agility / low int / low str. despite this using gear and buffs i'm typically running at 300 to 350 agi and 420 to 500 strength depending on the group. my intelligence however is nearly always double digits.my thought is that an erudite assassin decked out in the typically assassin gear would do fine str / agi wise but would pull far ahead of the other classes on intelligence. it's not huge, but poison damage is still significant and it goes up quite a lot as intelligence does.anyway, i still think it's most important to play what you like above all else but by the numbers i'd say erudite or another high int class.

Theres something about having an Ogre backstab something with two daggers the size of a gnome's torso...its just beautiful. Ogurrr ftw.

pist 03-26-2006 04:14 AM

When you're burning on an epic mob, and it turns on you, that 'pitiful plea' line is [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] nice to have. You get swung at once, and the second one you're toast. Only good once every 30 mins, but think of it as an 'oh shi' button when you pull aggro in a serious situation like a raid.

Terayon 03-30-2006 03:14 PM

heh, i think the only time ive gotten aggro ina raid is when the tank goes boom... man, i gotta lot to think bout, Ogre assassin sounds good for visuals.. but i do like ratongas too.. oh dear.. course Iksar are reasonably sized too.. bah..

DeathPhara 03-31-2006 10:04 PM

well i chose Half-Elf myself. Because if im not mistaken they get INT ad STR char traits. I like both of those for scout class due to added damage from STR and added chance to proc from INT. thats my 2cp
