hello all.. just started a ranger afther one year pause from this game.. always whanted to play a ranger when i was playin whit my Fury (FP)..so here i find my self, cant decide between jeweler or woodsworker.. my main was jeweler and made ALOT of money on that.. but im sure i cant make any money now since im all new on a BIIIG RP server that allready have alot of crafters but i love crafting, so what is best for a ranger? i dont know what jeweler cant make now, is it alot of good agi/sta stuff to rangers? or is it bether to make my own bows and arrows?can a woodworker make ANYTHING else a ranger can use?remember im a noob, so no flameing please

woodworker: makes arrows that really aren't worth the time/effort required, can make a bows, but i don't think it's worth levelling a crafter just to equip one slot jeweler: makes the app4s and adepts you need, and some great jewelry (in T6 you can finally make the entire right side with AGI/STA/STR) BUT i would honestly recommend alchemy we go through tons and tons of poisons, more than any other scout, and there really is nothing like having constant access to any type of poison you want, rather than having to contract an alchemist or find what you need on the broker but 2nd choice would be jeweler

|

I went with Alchemy, mainly to keep me stocked up with poisons (the ones I want are NEVER on the broker).

4 more levels and when my Ranger dings adventure 60, i'll start working on Alchemy again... :smileytongue:

Hello MysticoN, an interesting question, since I like crafting, too. I'm a level 40 ranger/46 Jeweler, and i have a 47 Alchemist as Twink, but no woodworker. Considering that in heavy dungeon fighting i use up to 300 arrows per hour (maybe some other rangers even more), i don't think it's worth making your own arrows (on tier5 they will cost roughly 4s each just for the fuels if you craft them), since you might think "uh, i better go melee now instead of using my combat arts - I don't want to make new arrows soon". I'm hust using the summoned ones and for rare named or epic mobs i use legendary arrows, which, of course, some woodworker has to craft for me, which is a little annoying. Jeweler is nice for seven slots you can fill with it and the adept IIIs you can craft ynatime you wish. Adept Is are to be found anywhere on the broker, so appIV is'nt worth it. What I really, really would recommend: Go for alchemist! You will use lots of poisons (and I, for myself, use lots of potions, too), so you will have a continouus demand for the alchemist deeds. It would be a pain if you had to ask some other alchemists again and again "could you craft me some other XY-Poison" - it reminds me of the pre-apothecary-times where i had to buy the washes&co from the alchemist. Moreover, there are a lot of different poisons which you might experiment with - you surely will not do that if you can't craft them for yourself anytime if you want to test it. Yust be sure to get the advanced apothecary volumes to be able to build some rare vials if you can get some rare loam. Another point. Making money by crafting: Well, as Jeweler i was able to make some coin with Jewelry (never with runes - forget them; poor sages ...). I have no experience if you can make money crafting posions and potions; never tried it. Good luck, tom1301

In the end, go for what you feel is made for you. It doesnt matter that much, every class has something to offer.... Tailors can make light armour + dolls, armourer medium armour, weaponsmith yer precious weapons and woodworker arrows + bows + shields (if you like to use em). Jeweler cab craft our spells + of course jewelry. Sage, hmm... dunno if its has any direct impact for us... Im a provisioner myself, havent made things for sale, just for myself + alts + friends... But if i'd have to choose again, i'd prolly make an alchie. We consume a lots of poisons thourgh our career, also potions wont hurt either. So, if you can make those by yourself.... Also, they sell pretty good i think, since they are consumables.Even a carpenter is not ouf of the question if ya like it btw. It doesnt helpo your profession directly, but you could make nice cash by selling the furniture and boxes (dunno if theres already enough carpentry stuff for sale in your server thou)But, i'd recommend alchie or just make whatever ya like to do, doesnt matter that much in the long run (if ya like to adventure much, your crafter will lag behind anyway..

++Xan

hmm.. but its only our melee weapons that we can use poison on right? and why do we need more poison then other classes?
|
Our bow procs poison, and as far as I've heard, it will continue to do so after today's update. The way the game works, our bow procs poison more often than melee weapons, because of its delay. Because each poison charge carries a set number of procs (200 for crafted), more procs = faster poison usage.

The best tradeskill prof is the one that you will do. Yes some are more profitable than others, but if you hate it... you will soon stop. I started out as an outfitter, but didn't like it... so ended tradeskilling for me. I then rolled an alchy crafting alt and loved it.... and now he's 60. I still enjoy crafting with him even after all this time. Find something you think you will enjoy and do it. Take the money you make from tradeskilling and use it for the stuff you want or need. After all, this is a game... why do something that you think sucks?

I went with jeweler for the combat upgrades. I have no regrets. I've been able to make some rings and such that really help as well.

that said, I've found other tradeskillers to work on the following -

Weapons (pristine imbued blackened iron dual wields at the moment) - Weaponsmith (I provided the rares and made the extracts)

Bow (pristine imbued bone longbow) - Woodworker (I provided the rare and extract)

12 slot quiver - Tailor (again, I provided the rare)

As soon as I ding 20, I'll be looking at all of the above for the next tier, and I'll have to find a decent alchemist for the poisons. There are lots of options, but the CA's (Jeweler) and the Poison (Alchemist) would be the options I'd look at. Have to renew them all the time. Once you're at 60, it might help to be an Alchemist more, since you won't have the CA's to upgrade, but you'll still be using poisons. I haven't ever been there, so that's just a guess.

I asked the same question to my guildies and was told alchemy was a good choice.
Message Edited by DotC0m on 12-22-2005 09:44 AM

I'd personally go with the one that sounds the most fun to you. I went weaponsmith with my first toon (now a 60 weaponsmith) and never regretted it, but that alone wasn't enough to cover my needs, so about a month or so ago I started an alch as well, who is now 51. I enjoy both classes, but I have a little more attachment to weaponsmithing because it was my first crafting choice and I've become fairly well-known on my server as a trustworthy weaponsmith. Whichever direction you go, make sure that it's something you're not going to be bored with after a week or so of level grinding.

There's actually something to be said for picking a profession whose goods aren't something you'll need a lot as an adventurer. First, you'll need to keep your crafting level higher than your adventuring level in order to make the stuff you need. Second, you'll likely feel *compelled* to make your own stuff, even if you're not in the mood. (In EQ1 I was a fletcher, and sometimes when I was running out of arrows I just didn't feel like making more. But I couldn't convince myself to buy them from anyone else.) If you make some other product that you can reliably sell, and the stuff you need is available, you can do the tradeskilling when you want to, rather than when you need to. Personally, I'd suggest picking whatever tradeskill interests you, regardless of whether it's a good fit for your adventurer class.

/Agree Shader

Crafting is mind-numbing to me; I just don't have the patience for it. I'd definitely pick whatever is most appealing, whether it helps your ranger or not. Assuming, of course, that you're crafting to make money. If you'd just be crafting to outfit yourself, I'd go alchemist.

DotC0m: did you go alch? and if you did, did you like it?can alchs sill make some money on selling temper and other stuff?think im going for jeweler, it was my first crafting profession and i just loved it.. dont think its harder to buy poison then skill uppgrades and jewles.

I recommended alchemist b/c they're needed by almost every class in the game at some point. Fighter essences (skill upgrades), imbue extracts, poisons, potions, inks, WORTs, etc - all pretty necessary stuff.

OK! seems i have to speak up a little for woodworkers here :smileywink:

what has gone forgotten is that woodworkers make totems. for myself, i use loads of power/health regen totems. those provisoners overpricing? what do i care? :smileytongue:
need to run a bit faster? Depends if you want it for yourself, for money or for guildies. I went tailor and have rarely regretted it. Get plenty of orders for hex dolls (do not underestimate the value of +12AGI ) and guildied always need dolls, bags, cloth armor, leather armor. Plus, when others hit 40 they spent about 2p on a full set of legendary chain. I spent about 70g on a full set of legendary leather. Would have spent less if I'd bothered to level my tailor in time :p Of course, whether to wear chain or leather is a whole other thread. I'd say a big NO to doing anything with wood. Most you'll ever make is a bow or two for yourself. Apd summon arrows gives you 65 arrows (or is that the master one, don't remember) every 10 mins. In a good crafting session you can fill the quiver which you can make yourself as a tailor. Just my 2cp
